Those who work with children with disabilities
I just have to give you a giant
Rich started an internship at an Autism school in Queens on Monday - Monday was mostly training, but YESTERDAY...wow. He came home with bruises on his arms and legs from being kicked, elbowed, punched, and headbutted...AND a bandaid covering bite marks that drew blood
It must be soooo difficult to handle...so I commend you. It definitely takes a special person.

Re: Those who work with children with disabilities
Both my MIL & SIL do this. MIL works with middle school kids though so she has more problems with the being hit then my SIL who works with kindergardeners. MIL has to wear braces on her wrists because kids have pulled her thumbs backwards! I don't know how they do it!! from me too for anyone who does!!

Re: Those who work with children with disabilities
I give teachers who work with specials needs kids SO much credit. I teach regular ed, and that can be challenging enough. You have to be a *really* special person, though, to work with special needs children.

Re: Those who work with children with disabilities
can you send a really good one this way... most of kryssy's teachers because she is in middle school are not so good with her and her emotions. i have also watch teachers leave a child in the hallway to cry because she just does it sooo often eta: for those that have been good with her and other children

Re: Those who work with children with disabilities
to Rich!
I work in a children's psychiatric hospital as a primary therapist and some days it's hard. Last week one of my patients spit at me 3 times! It was gross! However, it's work I love.

Re: Those who work with children with disabilities
Yes - the agency I work for has 2 special needs schools - a lower and a HS. You should see some of the injuries. But it is very rewarding and the kids are so cute! The older kids are very smart and funny.

Re: Those who work with children with disabilities
I work as a Special Ed. Teacher in the MS. Most of the students are LD. But it takes a tremendous amount of patients. Honestly, I don't know if I can do it for 30 years w/o getting burnt out.
