Those with a girl and a boy...question
We just found out we are having a boy. I wanted a boy for DH - because his father passed away and he wanted more boys to be around to carry on the family name...plus you know how men are. But I secretly wanted a little girl this time around to be close in age to DD (1 1/2 years apart) so they would be best friends. BUT I'm really really thrilled we are having a boy and obviously most importantly, a healthy baby.
So my question is...how close are they, do they get along? Is the bond not the same with a girl and a boy? How far apart are they in age?
Thanks!

I don't, but one my best friends does. Hers are 20 months apart and are best friends, it is really cute to watch.
Her girl is the older one as well.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
I don't, but I had a brother fairly close in age (26 months) growing up & we truly were super close. I was older & we always played together, rarely fought & have continued to be close as we got older. I never had a sister, but never missed it b/c I was so close w/ my brother.
Also when we got to the teenage years, he stepped up & it was like having an older brother.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
They get along. They play together but they're not best friends. They have different interests for the most part. She's a girly-girl & he's all boy. She's wrapped up his trucks into blankets to put them to sleep & he's taken her Prince Charming in the GI Joe army.
They're 22 months apart.
I don't think age apart or sex are factors in making long lasting bonds with siblings. I haven't spoken to my twin sister in almost 2 years.

Thanks for the kind words! I have all this guilt about disrupting her perfect little world right now although I know she'll be so happy to have a sibling in the future! So many mixed emotions!!

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
I have a boy and a girl, exactly 2 years apart. I think its their age, but they don't really play together... They still fight over toys still (they are 3.5 and 1.5 now). But I do now that they can be so loving to one another. Like if one is crying, the other will go over and kiss to make it better...
My older brother and I are only 10 months apart. We never got along. Even in school, when we were in the same grade, I hated the fact my brother tattle-taled on me and I always had this constant presence that inhibited me.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
My brother and I are 2 years apart. Growing up we had our fights, then again, we had our days where we'd play all day long and not let anything lead to a fight. Now, as we got older, we are even closer and I'll have to say him and my SIL are def. my best friends. I also have a sister, 10 Years younger and of course she is close with us too.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
Mine are 17 1/2 months apart (25 mths and 8 mths) and they are incredible together.
She helps take care of him, she goes in the playpen with him, she "yells" at him when he touches her toys, she sits on my lap to help feed him at times (and shares his puffs or cheerios).
He adores her! He is always after her, he laughs uncontrollably at her at times.
My best friends' DD and DS are the same age difference and they are super close too....they do EVERYTHING together.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
I have 3 - a boy---22 months later---girl---21 months later--another boy My DD gets along great with both the boys. Now that the baby isn't so small anymore it's fun to see the 2 younger ones have a blast together. They fight sometimes but that would happen with any gender combo. I don't know what else add since they are still pretty young. Except that the differences and similarities I see in them are non-gender specific. ie, my DS #1 loves to learn and be challenged when it comes to math, reading, academic stuff and learning games. My DD is not as eager in that respect but she is less afraid to try new things when it comes to physical stuff.
ETA: I have an older brother and we got along fairly well as kids. When we got older we use to fight a lot and he use to beat me up all the time, serious beatings. He's so lucky I forgave him - since we are adults we have been really good friends. I consider him one of my best friends now - I can tell him anything without feeling judged and vice versa.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
Mine are 16 months apart. Right now dd is 3yo, ds is 19 months. They sort of play together, if you consider running around the room laughing like lunatics playing together. When the playing involves toys it's pretty much a tug of war with someone crying at the end.
But Sarah tells all the kids in her class to meet her brother Andy, her best friend.
ETA: My brother and I are 26 months apart and were very close growing up. We went through a phase when we were in our 20's where we weren't that close, but now we are pretty close again. I talk to him at least once a week.

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
I have a boy and a girl, they are 3 years apart. They simply adore each other. I love to watch them together. DD eyes light up as soon as DS walks into the room. I had really wanted to have another boy so DS would have a brother. I think that is normal to feel that way. I am now of course so happy to have one of each and never worry about how they will get along.

My sister and I are 1 1/2 years apart and we were best friends/worst enemies growing up. We would be getting along and then she stole my shirt without asking and we had huge fist fights...but then would make up about 10 minutes later. My mother would cry at us fighting, then shake her head in confusion. GIRLS.
Everyone is right...it's all about personality boy or girl. It's nice to see that so many of you are siblings of or have children that are so close to one another!

Re: Those with a girl and a boy...question
Mine are 3 minutes apart
If you asked this question a week ago my answer would be very different...lol.
DS used to be completely oblivious of his sister. Now he is very curious... we've had a few hair pulling incidents There are 8 billion toys on the floor but each one wants what the other one is playing with. I will definitely be reffing a lot more as the days march on.
There have been some very tender moments as well when DS or DD have reached out to "hold" the others hand.
They do have very different personalities. DD has been Miss Independent from the second she left the womb. DS is my little cuddlebug. He loves to be held by momma
