Those with infants & own a boat or spend time on boats

We just got a new boat. It has a small cabin & protection from the sun. Would you bring an infant out on the water? I really want to get out & spend time with DH and our son. Our son is only 6 weeks. I wanted to take him on the boat in August when he is closer to 9-10 weeks...am I crazy? Is it dangerous?

It is dangerous of course but I think you would be fine with a life jacket. Not that we really have the opportunity but I avoid things like that right now. But if its part of your lifestyle I would get comfortable with it. Maybe look for a Saftswim class so your baby can learn how to float etc.

No I do not think it is a good idea. The boat can get bounced around pretty good if a bigger boat passes or whatever. I would wait until next year. JMHOChat Icon

I haven't taken DS out on the boat b/c I'm afraid of all the bouncing. Maybe in August when he's 4 months.

It depends on the boat. We have a small wellcraft and it gets really bumpy.

DS was born last April and we did not take him out last year. This was his first summer on the boat.

This is my argument with DH right now. I absolutely do not want DS on the boat this summer. He is 4 months and I rather wait til next summer. I just think that it sometimes can get to bumpy out there holding him, and I don't really see the point in staying down in the cabin area. This is only my opinion though!
