Thoughts on convertable cribs/beds....
Are the convertables worth the extra money? Does anyone ever really use the toddler bed? I figure by the time my baby needs the toddler bed, I'm going to have another baby who'll need the crib, and so on....

Re: Thoughts on convertable cribs/beds....
I personally love the idea of a convertible crib, not for the toddler bed part, but for the full size, which you could do instead of the toddler bed, just put bed rails up.
I am not getting a toddler bed, it's either a twin bed for DD or we're buying a convertible (we're not sure if we should leave her in the crib until she's ready or push the bed issue when baby #2 arrives).
A "toddler" bed by itself is a waste of money imo

I was not into it, but FILs are buying the crib & wanted to get us a convertible crib. Now I am kind of glad b/c I see how much "extra" furniture my friends with toddlers have.

Re: Thoughts on convertable cribs/beds....
I have mixed feelings about them. My intention is to use one crib for all my children (hopefully timing will allow that) but at the same time the crib I love is a convertible and the entire set transitions really well into regular furniture. I'd really like to keep it all the for nursery until the last child but then I realize that it may be beaten up at that point and not even worth it...who knows.
For now my intention is to keep it a crib as long as possible. So it probably isn't the best use of money but I love it so much.

Re: Thoughts on convertable cribs/beds....
I don't want one and I am having a hard time finding a crib I like that is just a crib.
I have heard from my friends with toddlers that they aren't the best investment. One friend had one, but got pregnant again when her daughter was only a year old, so they had to either buy her another toddler bed or buy another crib. They chose to buy a second hand toddler bed.
Either way, she said it really wasn't worth the extra money.

Re: Thoughts on convertable cribs/beds....
Good topic!
We originally were going to get a convertible crib. Sounded great! Then I realized the 2nd bedroom downstairs next to our bedroom is VERY small. While this will a great nursery (our office right now), we could never use the full size bed there.
We have bedrooms upstairs but we won't send the kid upstairs until she/he is about 8 years old. So, I would have to buy a twin bed regardless. That would be mean storing the crib/full size bed for about 6 years.
We found a regular crib that converts into a toddler bed but are also looking into just a regular crib.
