Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
Those who have renovated your kitchen, what kind of countertops did you install and why?
Anyone who has done research on this please let me know your thoughts.

Re: Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
We didn't redo a kitchen but we did replace the countertops. We had corian and put in Granite. I have always loved granite and how shiny it is. I would think that other positives are that you can put anything hot on there. You can cut on it without leaving marks.
For me - I just really liked the look of it to be honest.

Re: Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
I recently heard from a contractor friend that granite scratches really easily. But I really like them anyway.

Re: Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
just want to give you our POV...
when we finally do buy a house, we are definitely putting in either granite or silestone (quartz). we've done lots of research on both and it's really a toss up between the 2, although DH is leaning more towards granite.
the kitchen is the heart of any home, and DH LOOOOOOOOOVES to cook (lucky me ). yes it is not cheap but in our opinion, 1000% worth it! it also adds a lot of value to your home.
ETA: here is a good matrix to compare granite to silestone link (scroll down)

Re: Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
Thanks!
I too have seen Silestone and it is just as nice. Based on your comparison chart it has advantages. I'm leaning in this direction.
Where did you guys purchase your countertops? Did you measure or did someone visit your home to do the measuring. I went to HomeDepot and was told I measure and they provide me cost based on this. I thought this was a little odd. My measurements I'm sure will be much different from a professional installer.

I have NOT heard good things about HD!! you will pay premium price for average work. you are better off going with an indep. contracter, IMO.
I live near Bohemia and Lincoln Ave has 1 granite place after another. and you can even pick your slab... for $45 a sq foot installed!

We went to a place in Farmingdale right off 110. They were very good.

Re: Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
We went with black silestone. More specifically it's called Stellar Night. We LOVE it! Matches our kitchen perfectly and is so easy to clean.
We were thinking about going with granite and didn't because it needs to be re-sealed every year. Not that its a big deal, but we didn't want to bother.
First pic is the countertop. Second pic is our black granite floor. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Thoughts on Kitchen Countertops
we did the counter tops from home depot- they look like fake granite- becauase that was all we had the money for
if i could afford it, i would do stainless steel all over. i do alot of cooking and chopping and it would be nice to have that free workspace to chop wherever i want
HERE ARE PICS OF STAINLESS COUNTER TOPS (NOT MY HOME) Image Attachment(s):
