Threatening prank phone calls, need advice please

My DH received a prank phone call. The person put on a stupid phony accent, said some stupid things, then threatened to come over and kill him. The person said his first and last name. It is probably just a stupid prank, my DH has no known enemies, but we called the police. The policeman said that it has to happen like 5 or 6 times before any action is taken.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am not comfortable allowing this to happen 5 or 6 times!

i think you can contact the phone company and they can release the number to you that it came from, they can also block that # so you cant get any incoming calls from that #

I would call the police again and ask to speak to someone else. It does NOT need to happen 5 or 6 times before something can be done. They can trace where the call came from, etc. Don't describe it as a "prank" call to the police b/c that makes it sound like you think it's a joke and it's just an annoyance. Describe it as a threatening phone call.

I agree with Kara, Tobie. I would call the police again and tell them it was a threatening phone call, not a prank. I'd also call the phone company and find out where that call came from and see if you can trace it.Chat Icon

ITA you must call the police and tell them you received a THREAT by the phone. It takes it from being a prank to a federal offense. At that time the phone company will release to the officers where the call came from

Sorry you had to deal with this.

I'd personally let it go and make it so that you can only receive phone calls if the person unblocks their phone number. That should put an end to it. Kids are off from school, it was probably some stupid prank.

We did tell them it was a threat. We said that the caller identified my husband by name, first and last, and threatened to kill him. They left a message so we have it recorded. Maybe we will go down to the police dept. today. We also called the phone company, they said they need a subpeona (sp?) from the police to give us the phone number. Sheesh. Everything is a hassle, isn't it?
