Three Options...Which would you choose? Regarding traveling with a 21 month old

So we decided to go to Hawaii (Big Island to visit my SIL and stay on her fruit farm) again in February with Gracie. We decided not to get a seat for her since it went so well last time and the airline gave us a seat (for free) for two of the four flights anyway. Chat Icon DH and I have a system. She stays on his lap and I do ALL diaper changes for all four flights. I am such a bad flier and this works for us.

So, the issue is the flights to get to Kona. We have three options:

Option #1: Newark/Liberty (an hour and a half from our house) to Phoenix; then Phoenix to Kona directly. This is the identical flight we took last year. We would have to leave the house at 3AM the morning of the flight.

Option #2: Fly out of Newburgh Airport (smaller, easier to fly out of, park, et.c and it is 35 minutes from our house) to Chicago then Chicago to Kona. The Chicago to Kona flight would be a super looonnngggg flight.

Option #3: Newburgh to San Francisco, San Francisco to Honolulu, Oahu stay overnight in Oahu, then Honolulu to kona the next day. This involves renting another car just for the day, unloading luggage (ALL the baby's stuff: pack n play, stroller, clothes, diapers, etc.). And we would stay in a hotel for one night and leave the next afternoon.

SO DH and I LOVE option three. Especially since I have the chance to see and maybe surf at Weimea Bay Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon SO the question, IS this too much for Grace? DH was thinking about it and all the running around after flying 13 hours, getting the rental car, checking in, etc. may be too much for her. I am so afraid of the "terrible twos" that I don't know what to do. When we went last year she was great when we got the rental and drove to SIL's house directly from the flight. SIL made it so easy, everything was there for us, diapers, wipes, formula, food, etc. The hotel, would not be so easy. Plus, I am going to de-stress. Chat Icon

Point of this long and sorted story is I have a chance to complete a dream (surfing Waimea) but will it be at the expense of Gracie's well being? Will I have a screaming 21 month old on my hands if we do this? What if the day we go the waves are too big? I know my limits and with just having surgery and everything...is it worth it? However, I would love to just see Waimea.

Girls help! I need the voices of reason. Chat Icon TIA! Chat Icon

I would do 3. It is not like you are saying land and then you will surf and be on the flight to Kona in 3 hours, that would be crazy, but I think a day to do something that you have always wanted to do a great idea.

Thanks. I am concerned that all of this finageling and then what if I can't surf it that specific day? Well, just to see it would be worth it, plus it gives us some alone time away from SIL and BIL. Chat Icon

ETA: If Grace is having a cranky day THAT day, this can all go down the tubes quick and that is my major concern.
