Throat issues....

I have had an irritated throat for almost a month now. It feels swollen and it is hard for me to swallow sometimes. It comes and goes, but is mostly here every day. It is very uncomfortable. I went to the doctor and he thinks it may be allergies. Has anyone ever had anything like this? TIA

Re: Throat issues....

Let me describe my symptoms to you and tell you what it is for me and maybe some bells will go off for you. I also have the same exact throat issues. It's worse a couple of hours after I eat and it depends on what I eat. It feels like a tightness, even like a lump int he throat (not that I can feel a lump, but when I swallow it feels like it).

Mine is definitely a combination of acid reflux and post nasal drip. And even those 2 things are related. YOu don't necessarily have to feel heartburn to have acid coming up your esophagus. Plus, I never notice my post nasal drip, but it just goes right to the back of my throat. I take tylenol allergy sinus and prevacid (try zantac over-the-counter for a week and see if it improves).

I hope this helps...it took me years to figure it out. Your doc wasn't too far off with the allergies, but they never suspect acid reflux.

I have all of the above, plus very large, cryptic tonsils. I get sore throats and swollen glands very often. Sometimes I need antibiotics because the chronic irritation can lead to infection. I should probably gargle more, too.

Re: Throat issues....

I have been having the same thing. My throat kills me one day and is totally fine 2 days later. It was so bad last Monday tht I went to the doctor and honestly thought he was going to say he wanted to remove my tonsils. I could not swallow and everytime I felt the urge to swallow I had to brace myself for the pain that was coming. By Wednesday it was gone and I have been fine until last night again. It is so weird. I wish it would go away already.

Re: Throat issues....

I have had that before and went to the dr- they found nothing. it was terriblly annoying- it felt as if there was alump in my throat, sometimes I would actually gag from the sensation. They told me it was wither allergies or acid reflux. I think it allergy related because I usally get this in the spring. Luckily it goes away on its own in a few days/weeks.

Re: Throat issues....

I've had this on and off all month. I haven't gone to the doctor, because when I went last July with the exact same symptoms, I was told it had to be allergies.

Feel better.
