Thrown out of preschool

The day I knew was coming came early. Before the end of September, my little boy with mild cp was thrown out of his typical 2 yo program. He is a triplet and was there with his brothers. His brothers were there over the summer and did great. I thought maybe he was ready this fall. He had finly started walking and his therapists were excited about school, thinking that some independence would help and that school would help with his speech development. It was two three hour days. He had therapist there one hour each day so it was rally just 4 hours a day the teachers had to deal with him and even that was too much.

Apparently the ten therapies a week and six specialists are still not enough to make him "Normal."

I am so depressed. I live in a tiny, dark apartment with them. I cut my mothers helpers hours In anticipation of school and now she is booked. Meanwhile I now have more time on my hands with them and I can't so much as take them to target alone bc of my little guys difficulty with mobility. I'm looking forward to my third winter stuck in my basement play room.

I am just venting. My children are healthy for which I am grateful. Cp is not progressive for which I enormously thankful. I am just sad that he failed his first test of normalcy, sad that he probably will have to be separated from his brothers in future schooling, and sad for myself that the small breaks that I had enjoyed are coming to an abrupt end. Sad that the vision of typical motherhood that I had envisioned is eluding me. Does it get better?

may I ask why the school doesn't believe they can provide an environment for him?

Also, how old is your little guy? Is there a school environment for him that can be provided by CPSE or EI?

Sorry this happened. Would your DS qualify for a special needs pre-school?

That would be great but unfortunately we are in queens where there are very few EI center based programs. Only three or 4 in the entire boro. We did get a spot on one but the time was 2-4, right in the middle of naptime. Plus they couldn't take his brothers, who are typical (they are triplets). Logistically there was no way to do it. I will be transitioning him to cpse in September and hopefully will find am integrated progr to take all three, but I really needed so e type of break this year. So I found a typical preachool that said they were open minded and that his therapists could see him there. So I would get a break, they would all be learning, and it would be three or four less therapy sessions to sit through. But oh well....

I am so sorry. I can only imagine. Stinks they couldn't have held out a little longer to just give him a little more time to adjust. It's only been a few weeks!!! Chat Icon

I'm sorry. Will NYC consider busing to Nassau? That may be an option.

Maybe see if you can have the therapist see your son while the other two are in preschool that way you will still get some down time. I would keep the other 2 in pre school if they are doing well and enjoying it.

I agree that you should keep the other 2 in pre school. It's really not fair to hold them back. I am having the same problem with my twins. One goes to the gym for therapy. The other is starting to cry that he doesnt get a turn. I think I will have to register something for "D" even though that wont really be fair. It really so hard when twins/triplets involved
