Thumbsucking vs. Webkinz desire.
Maddie finally stopped sucking her thumb (and her knuckles)!!! I cheated a little bit. I showed her how to rub her tongue against the roof of her mouth when she wanted to put her thumb in. I'm sure this will cause other dental problems but her speech & her teeth have suffered enough. Last night she was sleeping & I noticed she was moving her mouth around without her thumb in.
She was promised a unicorn webkinz and that she can continue to wear nail polish if she stopped. There are NO webkinz in Manhattan (just called 6+ stores). I tried a bunch near my house & found 2 unicorns. My mom is picking them up later today.
Lame, I know. I feel like I won the lottery. I'm so proud of her!

Leslie - I seriously think it was the tongue on the roof of the mouth that did it.
Her teeth are a mess after almost 4 years of thumbsucking. The sooner, the better IMO.

I wouldn't think of it as bribery! It's a reward! She deserves it!
Now if only I can find the perfect bribe, er, reward, for Michael, I can finally get him on the potty!

Thanks. I'm not sure at 2 that he'll really understand what/how to do that. But I will definitely keep it in mind. I almost think that us moms of thumbsuckers have it worse than those that use pacifiers, b/c at least they can take those away!

Nice work!!! As far as rubbing your tongue on the roof of your mouth, I always did that. In fact I think I still do at times and I never had any dental problems.

Thanks I was wondering if I traded one OCD thing in for another. She was showing DH how to rub his tongue on the roof of her mouth at the dinner table tonight. DH who sucked his thumb until he was waaayyyy to old.
