Thyroid / TSH level question
Hi ladies - so i am a chronically anxious, nervous person - nothing new there. I went to the dr. a few months ago for a different issue (period went wacky for two months - now it's totally back to normal), and they did a TSH test which came back at .9. The dr. said this is within normal range. I do see that it's at the lower end of normal (i.e. closer to hyperthyroid).
For those experienced with thyroid issues - could being on the "lower end" of the TSH spectrum make you feel extra nervous / anxious, even if your level is technically within the normal range?
My other question is - do you think fasting affects it, or did your symptoms vary by time of day? I took the test after having not eaten for like 12 hours. My brother (who is hypo and on Synthoid for years) said that TSH levels are often higher after fasting / in the morning, and considerably lower in the afternoon/evening after eating. Which makes me think that my TSH would be even lower later in the day - maybe hence why i'm most anxious in the evening. (And i should also probably mention that my mom's mom was hyper and ultimately had her thyroid removed - so we run the thyroid gamut in this family )
Again, my dr. (gyno) wasn't concerned, but it also isn't her specialty.
Hope this all makes sense, and thanks for any insight!!

Re: Thyroid / TSH level question
You would need to see an Endocrinologist if you wanted further testing.
Or if your Gyno has no problem doing the extra-detailed testing on you; then let her/him do it. And then take it from there.
Doctors and Endos have different opinions on what they think should be "normal" range.
Besides TSH; they look at the other thyroid functions. T3, T4, Free T4, etc. etc.
Also, ask to be checked for Thyroid Antibodies. There are two to check for. If you are positive for at least one; that is enough to be put on a low dose synthroid.

All of this. Plus an endo will send you for thyroid scans and possible radioactive testing. I did this when I was HYPER. Long story, I needed radioactive iodine to destroy my thyroid and am now HYPO IIt's easier and safer to treat HYPO than HYPER.
And yes, HYPERthyroid can give you the symptoms you are having. ANd yes, still being within normal limits but on the low (high) side can make you feel different. When I first went HYPO, I was "Within normal limits" but on the high (low) side of the spectrum. Dr I was seeing said I was fine but I felt AWFUL. Found a new Dr who believed in trying different doses of Synthroid until I found MY NORMAL LEVEL. For me, being on the Low (high) side of normal is best for me.
After all this.... Go see an endo

Re: Thyroid / TSH level question
Hmm, could affect it. I just had it done last week and was fasting for the glucose and cholesterol portion and my thyroid came back at 2.4 when it had been around 3 a few months ago...
