Yeah it's crazy to get tkts ahead of time. It's like a lottery.
On the day of the shows though, you can try and wait in line to get last minute tickets to either the dress rehearsal or actual show. It's a crap shoot.

I sent a request for tickets for the David Letterman show. For that show they call you and you have to answer a trivia question about the show to get tickets.
Man, I hope I don't mess it up.
Jon Stewart they will let you know when tickets become available again.
I've been to Jon Stewart before and within 5 months we got tickets.

Ask people you know!
I got in last year for the full dress rehearsal when Pearl Jam was on, just by asking around. Someone knew someone who knew someone at NBC and they got me tickets!

The other day, I was walking around there and they were asking people on the street if they wanted to go. Try walking by on a rainy day or when no one big is on and your odds are good!

My mom works for NBC and even she has a hard time getting tickets. She does however get to walk down to the rehearsals all the time
