Time frame for birthday party?
Hi,
I have a question. I am having Ava's party (pool party) at the house. I am not sure if I should put a time limit on the party like 12-4 or 1-5?? I mean i feel bad becuase it is at the house and I don't want to make it seem like I am kicking people out... But I feel if I don't, people will think it will go on all day and night and come late or never leave. ha ha....
I figure most people will start to pack up when it starts getting colder or dark anyway.
What do you all think? Also, we are having a kiddie party. I guess the parents stay (can't expect them to drop off their kids and go home). But I also want to invite close friends without kids.. But I can't have everyone. I don't know what to do without making people feel bad? Any ideas??
TIA, Denise

Thats true!
For Julia first b-day last year I just put 1:00 in the invite and people just started to leave on there own after cake, some stayed untill she opened her gifts but it was just some family so it wasn't bad.

Re: Time frame for birthday party?
I would definitely put a time on it as I know from some other parents that didnt put a time on and some guests stayed WAY past their welcome time...especially if the weather is nice and everyone is hanging out.
I put 2-4 on my DD's invite and most people left at 4....we had a few hangers on but not too many...I think people are secretly relieved that you have a time frame too as you dont feel like you are running out on the party.

Re: Time frame for birthday party?
Ok, cool. I just didn't want to be rude.
Now, what time do you guys think is a good start time? It is a pool party, so I was thinking of starting a little earlier in the day then 2 or 3 becuase we want the sun for the pool. BTW, her bday is in July.
I just worry about naps, etc. But I think most naps are in teh afternoon. So I am thinking 12-4 or 12:30-4:30 OR maybe 1-5? :) I dunna know..

I would do 12-4 then. That would be more then enough time. You really can't worry about the other childrens naps or you will be going crazy!

Great. Thank you so much for the help.
Have you decided when you are having Julia's birthday?

Re: Time frame for birthday party?
I don't usually put a time frame on house parties but for DD's birthday we did plan all the activities for children (entertainment, lunch, cake, pinata) for about a 2&1/2 hour time frame and people stayed and people left but none of the kids (who the party was really for) missed anything.
