Time Out Success! (I think)
Recently I posted that I cannot get DS to do timeouts. Some of you said you had the same issues, so I thought I would share.
The issue is that I cannot get him to sit in a corner, and if I pick him up and put him back he either:
laughs, thinks it is a game, and I wind up chasing him around
or
gets angrier and too wild, hard to grab and put in the corner
So we both sat in the corner of the kitchen--he was on my lap, and I kept my arms around him, not to hug him, but to pin his arms down. So he sat until the time was up and tried to get away, but he could not. When his time was up, I let him calm down then explained why he had the time out again (shaking the Christmas tree).
Later that night, I saw him go up to the tree again and start to grab a branch. I asked him if he wanted a time out, and I could see the wheels turning in his head, but he decided no, he did not and left the tree alone.
Finally, found a way to do this that works!

Re: Time Out Success! (I think)
Time out is a punishment procedure.
The definition of punishment is that it reduces the chance of the behavior occurring again in the future (after the delivery of the punishment).
I would say you succeeded in punishing the behavior! Good job!

Re: Time Out Success! (I think)
We'll see if I need to use this again today.
I don't like holding his arms down like this, but he just isn't sitting or standing on his own. And he is getting VERY unruly, it really can't continue.
So we'll do this for awhile, and maybe at some point, he'll get the idea of going in the corner on his own.
