Timing Baby's Delivery
Has anyone tried to time their baby's delivery to a certain season?
Ie. conceive in the summer to have a baby in the spring? And does that work for you?
DH does not want us to try yet because he's afraid if we conceive now I'll be 8 or 9 months during the hottest month of the year. :P
He also doesn't want a winter baby 'cus he was born in February and birthday parties were difficult to plan for the cold season. :P

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
Tried twice, failed twice!!!
With #1 we wanted a summer baby, but it took longer to conceive than we anticipated and had a winter baby. With #2 we wanted to try for a fall or spring baby and ended up getting pregnant accidentally and are having a summer baby.
You can try, but just know whatever happens and happens and it's blessing regardless of when you are due.
Good luck

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
we did actually time it so that we would have #1 before the summer began....he was born june 29th. and this time around we planned it so that the baby would be born early spring....she'll be here either the last week of march or first week of april. now, that being said.....it DOES not always happen the way you want it to. we were lucky.....timing of everything worked out and we were able to conceive on the 2nd month both times around. but....as the saying goes, you make plans and god laughs.....so you can give it a shot....but NOTHING is a guarantee in life!

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
We did, luckily it worked out...we got pregnant on the first try..I'm due May 22, just in time for summer!
BUT, if i didn't get pregnant on first try, we would have just kept trying and I would have dealt with whatever season i delivered in.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
We did! We tried to time it for a May delivery, since I am a teacher - that way I could have my maternity leave run into the summer vacation. Lily was born perfectly on May 29th!

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
For work related reasons we tried for me to not be pregnant/have a newborn around Christmas. We pretty much got it right I was only in my second month for Christmas and by the time the holiday rolls around again we'll have a 7 month old.
Although we were trying for a specific time frame and it worked out, we were never really going to "stop" trying regardless.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
Yes, I very much did. My first Dc wasn;t planned. She was a December(winter baby) and although that was great b/c by the time she was 6 months it was the summer, I also wanted to do it the opposite. I wanted a spring/summer baby. My 2nd DC was planned and I wanted a May baby. I chose May b/c b/c my older DD is in school and the school year ends in June. So to me May was perfect b/c it gave me enough time to bond with the baby and to also start a schedule. It happened to work on the first try but even if i had a June baby or summer baby that still woudl have been fine. It was all in the plan.
Also now thta I've had the winter ANd the spring summer baby, IMO it was more enjoyable having the baby in the warmer weather. Simply b/c you can do more things and wear less clothing.
With my 3rd baby ,I am due in late March which is prefect b/c the warm weather is just around the corner.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
I am always warm and didn't want to be at the end of my pregnancy in the summer so we purposely started trying in the spring. Well it worked. I am due in January and so happy about it.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
Being a teacher I was hoping for mid spring, March or April but it didn't work out, I am happy I still will have the whole summer with the baby, DC will be born mid-late June. Still happy to be having a baby

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
We did it twice and it worked both times for us. I wanted my first between March and May and she was born in April. I wanted my second in March, and well DH's parents had to come visit during o week so now I am having this one in the very beginning of May. As a teacher still works great for me.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
I tried. I wanted a June baby and i got pg, but it ended in MC. I got PG a few weeks later and my dd was in August. He came early and i had a july baby. After goign through the MC, i decided not to try so hard and to let it happen.

Same here...it happens when it happens. After it took over a year to get PG with DD...I really didn't care the 2nd time around about timing. I just felt so fortunate that we got PG on the 2nd try

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
ideally, I didn't want to be very preggo during July/August, and I didn't want a Sept baby since Al and I both have Sept birthdays.
Ella is a June baby, and I have a May baby on the way (though I *thought* #2 would be a late fall 08 baby ).
You can "try" and plan, but be prepared for anything.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
we thought we would get pregnant around the fall....who knew it would happen so quickly and BARELY "trying".
Turns out that is close to being born on our 3-year dating anniversary! That would be so perfect!!!

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
Timing... Yeah not so much. I REALLY REALLY thought we had some control over that. (I wan't trying to be obnoxious.. I am more laughing at myself). 8 months later we are still trying and I don't care what months I am pg at. If you had showed me what I am typing right now last May I would never have believed it.
Try when you are ready to try but don't count on timing.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
It really didn't matter to me overall, but after thinking about the plus side of it, I am glad that the baby will be here in May b/c it will be a nice time of the year for walks and such with the baby, less worry about colds and such.
Honestly IMO, I think there is a downside to being heavily pregnant in the winter - and I will be in my 3rd trimester mid-February... I know I'm more afraid of falling on ice or loosing my footing in snow than would I have been concerned about heat in the summer. My back is hurting really bad, and even not pregnant I tend to get more back aches in the winter than in the summer so this just compounds it. Not to mention I've had 2 bad sinus flare ups that I don't think I would have had in the warmer months and I'm so worried about having another one that I stay away from gatherings and such to avoid the possibility of getting sick (sounds paranoid I know, but when you can't take anything and your head is pounding it's really hard). You can always get into air conditioning in the summer and you can wear comfortable clothing and stay hydrated. The other winter issue I'm finding is that in my job I'm in and out all day (even goind shopping has this issue too) so you dress nice and warm for the outside then you boil and feel like you are going to pass out once you get indoors.
All I'm saying is winter time pregnancy has a downside too. However, time of year had little influence in my decision as to when to conceive. We started as soon as we were ready thinking it would take a few months since I'm 34. It happened right away and we feel truly blessed.

We wanted a winter baby (Feb or March) because we live down south and it is so hot in the summer. We got pg our first month.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
We tried to time it becuase of work.... I wanted to give birth in March...and it couldn't have worked out more perfectly!
BUT, I know that many times people try to plan this and it just doesn't go their way. We were "lucky" in that way, I guess.

Re: Timing Baby's Delivery
i'm not a particularly religious person, but as far as planning conception goes, i think the quote "we plan, God laughs" applies. you can certainly try to plan it, and maybe you'll get lucky, but i wouldn't bank on it.
