Tip for ladies expecing a boy
I just thought I would pass this on. If you are expecting a boy and plan on circumcising him, get plenty of gauze pads and tubes of petrolium jelly now. Nobody mentioned this to me and although the hospital gave me a bunch of stuff, you go thorough it so quickly. I am almost out and I've only been home since Monday. I suggest getting a lot of 2x2 and 4x4 gauze pads.

Re: Tip for ladies expecing a boy
Excellent advice...the 4x4 pads are better in my opinion, they cover a broader area...
My friend who just had a boy said her doctor told her to just put the vaseline on the diaper area where the pee pee would be..BUT they have found it stuck to parts of the diaper at times, so i highly recommend the gauze as well! It worked great with our son, nothing ever stuck...

Yes. We wer told to put the vaseline on the 2x2 pad and put that over the pee pee then cover that whole area with the 4x4. This way, when he goes #2, it doesn't get on the pee pee or the small gauze. It really works well.
This is one thing I was soooo nervous about and following this procedure, it has been almost a week and looks almost all healed already!

Thanks!
It's good to hear that it heals quickly!
Take it from men I know who got it older - better now than later! My dad got it as a teenage boy - the stories he used to tell sooo

A couple of the girls I work with mentioned putting a ton of vaseline on, but not the gauze pads b/c they said sometimes it sticks and gets stuck on. Did you have that problem?

I never thought about this aspect of having a boy...I always just feared getting peed on. Thanks for sharing. [not that I even know if IT is a boy or a girl...]

Nope. I put so much vaseline that the gauze does not have a chance to stick. My friend was never told to put the gauze and she said that the diaper would stick no matter how much vaseline she would use.
I guess each hospital tells you to do it differently. But, this is what worked for me. I have been thorough sooooo much vaseline, LOL. It has now been one week since the circ and he is basically completely healed.
