tipping at an all inclusive in Mexico??

We're going to Aventura Spa Palace next week (belated honeymoon - yay!)... it's an all inclusive.... I know that it says tipping is included, but how much money should I bring for tips? What's a fair tip to leave for dinner down there? Obviously there won't be anything with prices on the menus because it's all inclusive, but I was figuring maybe $10-20 depending on the type of dinner, $5 for lunch/breakfast and a few dollars at the snack places..... DH wants to know if that's too much to use American dollars.... what do you think??? and what is expected?

Re: tipping at an all inclusive in Mexico??

I just got home from Aventura 2 weeks ago...We brought singles to tip...usually about $5 at dinner and maybe $2 to $3 at breakfast and lunch.

We left money for the maid also because our room was always spotless and we always had towel animals.

We always used American money and it was never a problem.

Tipping was optional...there were definitely people who didn't tip at all in any of the restaurants. Also, if there was a specific bartender or waiter at the pool we gave them some money at the end of the week.

Have a great time...its beautiful there!!

Re: tipping at an all inclusive in Mexico??

We just came back from cancun and I brought $50 in singles. We stayed 9 days. By the 7th day I was out of singles.

Tipping was included at our resort too but these people works so hard that we would tip $1 to $4 regarding to the service they gave us. $1 to $2 to the bartender and $2 to $4 for the waiters in the restaurants etc.

Agree with all of the above. Bring money for tipping- they work so hard for you there! Especially the bartenders and waiters. Tip them well and they remember you!!!

even though you dont have to tip, we do if we are satisfied with the service... we usually leave $2-3 each day for room service, couple of dollars to the waiters etc... I would bring about $50.00 in singles...

ok...so you don't think it has to be the equivalent of a NY tip since it's already supposed to be included, right? $5 for dinner is OK?

few years ago we gave a $5.00 tip to a waiter in a restaurant in Cancun (we stayed at the Cancun Palace at the time), he was so happy he ran after us and opened the door for us as we left... $5.00 is a lot of money for them...

Re: tipping at an all inclusive in Mexico??

The two times we've gone to all inclusives in Mexico we've brought $100 in singles with us. We usually tipped between $5-$7 for dinner, couple of bucks at breakfast/lunch, tips for bartenders, waitresses at pool, etc. Our favorite bartender at El Dorado Royale, we tipped him all week but then gave him another $20 our last night and he was so happy!
The way I see it, we were already spending a lot of money on a luxurious vacation - $100 more hurt us a lot less than helped all those people who busted their butts and were so nice and helpful and made our vacation wonderful.
