Tipping movers

Ah, the good old "how much do I tip question"... Chat Icon

We are moving this Friday and the total is going to come to a $1000. We have your regular furniture-bedroom set, livingroom couch, 2 armchairs, tables chairs etc... washer and a small dryer...

We are in a 1brm so we don’t have an enormous amount of stuff...

We are going to have 4 men. So, how much should I tip each of them? Chat Icon

Re: Tipping movers

I don't think my moving costs have ever been above $500 and I've never had too many heavy things that need to be moved. I'm pretty sure we usually tip each guy (typically 2-3 movers) $20.

Re: Tipping movers

FIRST WOW, $1000???? No offense, that a lot for not much stuff. I think they are ripping you off, especially coming from a 1 bedroom. Is it a walk up or something?

Re: Tipping movers

NOpe, elevator. I though it was an OK price comparing to another estimate we got, which was over $1200...

With an elevator too? That seems extremely high to me. Granted we would move ourselves or rent a Uhaul to save money and it would be under $100, but ask around on the home board because a lot of girls I belive paid less.

Re: Tipping movers

I think the price is right. Having moved not so long ago and getting many quotes $1000 is actually a fair number! I tipped $20 per man.

Re: Tipping movers

We just moved last month and we have each guy $50 bucks (there were 4 of them). They did a great job and moved so fast.

Oh my! I just booked a movers today and it was a lot less. I live in a one-bedroom, two-story walk-up. It's costing $270 for the first two hours plus $90/hour afterwards. That's for two men and it shouldn't take more than 4 hours ($450.)

I'm using Moveco. they were recommened by a few people on here.

Wow, I just called moveco and they actually quoted me somewhere between $1200 and $1400.

But Ken's did give me a better price, less by about $175 to $140..

The only thign is, they did it over the phone so it's not really perfectly accurate... Hmmm

Re: Tipping movers

I just moved Thursday & we tipped $30 each. There were supposed to be 4 guys, but they brought along a 5th.

We had no idea what was appropriate either.
(I couldn't remember what I did last time)
