Tipping spinoff: tipping garbage men

How do you tip your garabage men? They come to my street on Tuesdays and Fridays, when we are at work. Last year I just happened to be home one day so was able to meet them.

I tape the envelope to the inside of the lid. DH puts it out at 6:15 am before he leaves, so there's less of a chance for someone to steal it.

Ours left a card with an address where you can send the tip. It said in the past too many times their "holiday cheer" was stolen.

We never see our mailman and he is excellent. I'm leery about just leaving the tip in the box as we have a sidewalk mailbox. I have to try to catch him.

I leave it in the lid of the garbage can but this year I am going to see them cuz we've been getting up much earlier.
The mailman I leave a card in the mailbox that says "To our Letter Carrier"and since they aren't allowed to get cash I give him a gift card.

Ours left a letter in our mailbox this year to hand it to them instead of taping it to the lid because of stealing. Now I have to sit and wait for them at 6am......

Last year was our first year in the house, and I just went out a little before they came and taped it to the lid. This year I will do the same on garbage day- I leave at 5:45 am, and they come around 6.
