Tips from Metformin users?
I'm on pill one day one and I'm already super nauseous.
I didn't have this issue last time - I remember being worried about it, but the stomach problems never really hit.
I'm supposed to lay off carbs, right?

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
I have found that eating more protein and less carbs definitely helps me. Also, having brown rice instead of white, or whole wheat bread instead of white bread.... things like that. HTH!
ETA: I take it at bed time.

Take it with food - that helps too. My biggest issues with it happen if I eat a lot of sugar, so you might want to stay away from that too.

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
I usually took the Met at night before bed with a little milk. This seemed to help the stomach issues and made me pretty "regular" the next day! (TMI)
Also you have to stay away from high fat and carbs.

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
Thanks ladies.
If you take it at bed time, do you take it all at once?
I'm on three pills a day - can I take them all at the same time??

I take the exended release at dinner. It takes some time to get your system used to it.

Are you on ER? I found that the extended release was much easier on my stomach.

Nope, just normal old Met. I have 500 pills to take, so maybe with the next refill I'll ask about ER.

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
I take it all at one time, right before bed. Most side effects went away after four months.

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
I found cutting out or limiting sugar and carbs (okay, I CANNOT cut out carbs! ) helped with the stomach problems.
I was on a dose also of 1500mgs per day, I took one pill in the morning with breakfast and the other two at night before bed. Seemed to work well for me.

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
I take 3 a day, all at once, all at night before bed. - My stomach gets a bit crazy if I drink too much alcohol, too much sugar, TOO much of anything really ........You don't HAVE to stay away from carbs completely - Just try to limit your intake of sugar/carbs/alcohol - at least that's what I find helps me -

Re: Tips from Metformin users?
I used to take 1000 mg 2x/day. One with breakfast, one with dinner.
I noticed that I didn't have to restrict my carbs/sugar too much IF I was able to always have a protein with my carb. Like if I wanted a muffin or poptart for breakfast, I had a scoop of cottage cheese too. Or an egg with toast, etc. I found an all-carb breakfast would definitely make the stomach issues worse.
Also if I had too light of a breakfast, mid-morning I would feel my blood sugar CRASH.... sudden nausea, light-headed, I had to eat something or drink OJ immediately.
