Title guy
I was just talking to the mortgage guy about everything involved in closing and he said normally you tip the title guy, who will be at the closing. Just trying to see if this is normal! Thanks!

Re: Title guy
Are you kidding me? I'm in the midst of our first home purchase, and I've never heard anything like that.
I'm personally not tipping anyone involved in the closing. They are all professionals and are being compensated for their services... and quite honestly, I think it looks bad to tip the person who did the title search!

Re: Title guy
I'm not trying to be contentious (or cheap), as I've never purchased a home before... but I just asked about 10 different people - including someone who owns a very large real estate firm on Long Island AND a woman who does the title searches for a title company on Long Island. Both said it's not necessary and done less than half the time.
Just giving another perspective...
The woman who does the title searches said her company prohibits them from taking tips. (No idea what company she works for)
I'll definitely keep this in mind and ask our mortgage guy about this... but I doesn't seem to me to be mandatory.

Re: Title guy
Yeah, the title person got a tip cause she went straight to Town Hall and delivered the documents and registered our deed. Her tip was included in the closing costs - I think it was $100.

Re: Title guy
my DH who is in the biz now- says you don't have to tip
my Dad who owned a large real estate company in the 1980s - says yes to tipping
I don't think it's something you have to do- but if you want to do it- then go ahead
