TMI Q re: AF and ovulation

When I 1st get AF, it's so bad - very heavy, I bleed like a stuck pig - awful, for about 2 days. Then it's very light. Maybe, all together, AF lasts a few days this way - I got AF Thursday, and it's already tapering off this morning, on Sunday - after a freakin BLOOD bath Chat Icon Fri and Sat....

Is it possible I could O earlier since AF doesn't last this long? I am following one of the fertility type calendars online, but it also has days where it assumes AF is still flowing.

But it doesn't seem to flow all those days.

Come to think of it, in the past, we were always less careful right after AF, thinking I wouldn't be O'ing just yet, and I know DC was a surprise

Think I have something here?

Of course, I'll talk to my Dr, but curious since some of you seem to know as much as a Dr. on here!!! Chat Icon

I don't know, but why don't you try OPKs this month and then you'll hopeful find out when you are ovulating.

Re: TMI Q re: AF and ovulation

i was under the impression it doesnt matter how long AF lasts, its just the length of you cycle that would calculate your ovulation day. maybe im wrong?

I don't think the length of AF matters at all.

How long are your cycles usually?

I don't think that the length of actual AF means much....unless you have unusually long cycles which can be problematic and a whole other situation.
It's the length of your full cycle that means something........like the poster above says, I think you should try using OPKs to know when you ovulate....much more accurate then trying to guess and go by your AF length.

see thats my problem too! i bleed heavy the first 2 days and then by day 3 and 4 it starts to die down. she's usually only around for 4 days max! and i was talking to my sisters (who have 3 kids each so they must be doing something right!) and they said they got pg each time RIGHT after AF was done! so they told me this month to start BD'ing earlier than cd10. so we started on cd6 and we're going the every other day route. at this point, im willing to try anything!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Okay, so then I wouldn't think you'd ovulate before CD 11 at the absolute earliest - otherwise you'd have an abnormally long LP!

I think that since you don't want to use OPKs, you can just try to BD every other day from CD 10-20 and that should do it!
