TMI.... went to the gyny today.... BC related
she was TOTALLY against me taking OrthroEvra (the patch). she said to me "is there ANYTHING i can say to make you switch?"
apparently its just really not good for you.
too much estrogen.
(causes clots and stroke)
just wanted to let everyone know in case you were thinking of or are on hte patch

i didnt even think they still gave out prescriptions for the patch.
I thought it was really bad for you and def not as effective

thanks for the post.
I did research on it, and studies said that since it goes directly into your bloodstream (whereas a pill you swallow goes into your stomach and is broken down) - its much more estrogen and its constant.
I woudlnt go on the patch.

I thought that the patch was recalled because it caused a higher instance of strokes and blood clots. I know for a fact that they pulled the commercials advertising them for that reason.

My old co-worker had a debilitating stroke from BC pills. After meeting her, I never took hormone based birthcontrol lightly again.

My cousin had one as well. Unfortunately she was also taking a diet pill that did not play nice with the pills. Sometimes there are other factors in pill mixing. I hope your coworker was able to regain any faculties lost.

I have heard of this happening. Scary.
I never took them after my father had a stroke (age 57) and I learned I was at an increase risk.
Trust me, you don't want to take that risk.
The younger you are when you have a stroke the more deadly/debilitating it is.

I heard about people having strokes on the pill, and that it is even worse on the patch! Especially if you smoke (don't know if you do or not).

they originally thought the patch was safer with a lower dose of estrogen.... turns out recent studies have proven the opposite. kind of scary.
