Re: TMJ pain
Some things to do immediately:
1. STOP chewing gum. 2. No Bagels. 3. Eat a "soft" diet. 4. Stay away from steak and anything hard to chew. 5. Stay away from big portions of food that require you to open your mouth big. 6. Stay away from chewy candy and the like : Gummy bears, Swedish fish...those kinds of things.
I have been treated for TMJ since I'm 21. I have had some issues recently and this all has helped. The other thing you will HAVE to do is get a bite appliance for sleeping. I have used one since I'm 21 years old and it has made a TREMENDOUS difference in my life.
My dentist is not in your area. But change these things right now and you will see a difference.

Re: TMJ pain
I'm in Queens so no suggestions but I definitely second the night guard. HUGE difference.

Re: TMJ pain
before I got the official guard, the doctor had me go to the sports store and get a hockey guard. You can warm/heat them up to fit your mouth.
Again, changed my life.

Re: TMJ pain
ugh that sucks
i had TMJ in my early 20's and had to wear a night guard to help move my teeth around, and even had them filed as well
agree with PP on things not to eat - and wanted to add crusty bread to that. Anything that you have to take a big hearty bite of (hamburgers on big roll, hero sandwiches etc) should be avoided.
No dentist recco as i had my treatment done in Boston and i'm currently in SW nassau
