We are in the same situation. We just paid our house off this month.
It is an AMAZING feeling to have no more mortgage.
But our house is woefully small.
You can barely turn around in both bathrooms.
No basement
A crawl space for an attic that is hardly even usable for storage due to cross beams.
A kitchen that you bump into each other if we are both in there trying to cook together.
It's really the size of an apartment IMO
However, I have no desire to move. We only have one child, so while the house is small, it's doable. If we had 2 children we would be expanding our current house by putting a second floor on, rather than moving. I like our yard, our location, our school.
But for now, we are enjoying the extra money per month, going to start saving more, I will eventually lease a new car for myself, and yes, put the money towards more travelling.
Personally I wouldn't do a summer house either because I'd prefer to go to different locations and if I bought a summer home I'd feel obligated to always vacation there.
