to find out or not

Need some advice

All this time I thought I would want to know what I was having. My level 2 is in 2 weeks and alot of people have told me to not find out and that it is the best surprise that life has to offer. Me, I feel I want to be prepared. I want a blue or purple room not yellow or green
What was your experience if you found out, I cannot imagine could have been any less exciting.
Thanks!

Re: to find out or not

I did not find out with my 1st or 2nd, and i have to say that I was sooo very glad that I waited, it is so very exciting, with now my 3rd, we found out and the excitement is no less!!! I now feel such a bond with my boy and I can refer to him and try to imagine what he looks like. I think it;s a personal preference. Either way, it is so exciting.

Re: to find out or not

Dh and I found out and had our family waiting at our house for the big "reveal". I had baked a cake and when we got home I quick dyed the frosting pink and wrote "its a girl" on it and went into the DR and told everyone to shut their eyes. I put the cake on the table and then told them to open and everyone just freaked out. It was so fun.

I liked finding out - I got to call my baby by her name and when I was getting lots of kicks I'd always say that "Ava was acting up today". I guess for me it felt more real but no less special.

Re: to find out or not

We are going to find out. For one I want to be prepared. I want the nursery personalized. As for the bonding issue, i think its just better IMO, not that being surprised is bad or means you bond any less, I just want to know!

Re: to find out or not

Its a surprise either way...whether you find out at 20 weeks or 40 weeks. I found out because I wanted to have the room decorated specificly for a girl or boy...

Now that I know I am having a girl I am having fun planning the room Chat Icon

Re: to find out or not

I think its for some and not for others... when I told everyone I found out so many people were like "why"???

I feel like no matter what...when your baby is born the surprise of seeing what him/her look like...can never be taken away...

To me finding out the sex...was my first surprise at 20 weeks...and the next surprise seeing what he looks like will be at 40..

Knowing my baby is a boy, and being able to refer to him as a him or as baby ryan...creates an awesome bond...for me at least...

But like I said before...its a personal choice...do what YOU want.. no what other people want you to do...or think you should do!

We didn't find out for our first. But all along I had a feeling it was boy and I was right. So we decided that if we have another, we will find out.

Re: to find out or not

I think this is a very personal decision.
We all have our reasons (all good) for what we choose.

I don't think finding out helps you be more prepared....

If you don't want to find out you go with nuetral room, etc.
if you find out you can go gender specific...

either way it is the most exciting time...
and is your choice.

we decided not to find out
and I am happy with our decision...

GOOD LUCK WITH MAKING YOUR DECISION

Re: to find out or not

It's totally a personal decision. DH and I decided that we wanted to find out the sex, so we could decorate the nursery accordingly and buy clothes that were either male or female-oriented instead of neutral colors. Like Marissa (PrincessMaris) said, it's still a surprise whether you find out at 20 weeks or 40 and nothing can take away from the surprise of seeing your baby for the first time (whether you know the sex or not). DH and I were thrilled to find out we were having a baby boy. Good luck with your decision! Chat Icon

Re: to find out or not

I found out because i wanted to bond with the baby and know what to call her. It is so cute because now my DH comes home and talks to kaylee and and i think he and the rest of our families feel really attatched to her. I know it sounds silly but everyone is having so much fun making her personalized gifts and setting up for a little girl to come. I would never have done it any other way.

Re: to find out or not

We didnt find out with Emma or Jeremy. For us it added to the surprise in the hospital. It was a guessing game which helped pass the time of being pregnant. I will always remember DH announcing the sex of our children, not some sono tech.

Re: to find out or not

We decided not to find out.

I'm big on jinxing things (which is lame, I know). I just felt that somehow something might go wrong if we found out. That's just me.

It has been a pain in deciding what to do with the baby's room. I've picked out on bedding set for a boy but am having problems settling on one for a girl.

We are just going to wait until after the baby is born to buy the sets and paint the room, no biggie. The baby will be in our room anyway for the first few weeks.

Its really a personal decision. I wanted my hubby to have the big moment of announcing what the baby is to our family.

Totally personal choice. I did not and was so happy I did not. It was fun having people guess and I was so surprised at the results. When they said it's a boy - I said really??? lol All along I had a girl feeling.

Re: to find out or not

This really is a personal thing...I feel that no matter what you'll bond with your baby...you don't have to know the sex for that.

My DH and I are opting NOT to know and to let it be a surprise. I too, would like to be more prepared and do the baby's room more specific to their gender. I don't want yellow or green either...but, since we're not finding out our baby's sex, we're going with another neutral color...a dark creamy color.

Re: to find out or not

Definitely a personal decision and it was really hard not to find out when the tech asked us...but I had two reasons:
1) I am superstitious like that and didn't want to start calling the baby by its name until he/she is actually here (dumb reason I know)
2) My SIL found out with her first and didn't find out with her second and said the surprise with #2 was soooo amazing and afterwards had wished she didn't find out with #1. I thought that was interesting b/c usually people do it the other way around.

It is also really fun to keep guessing - especially in the last few weeks when you just want the baby OUT already. Chat Icon

Either way it will be a surprise whenever you decide to find out!

Re: to find out or not

we decided to find out because DH said "I'm too impatient to wait"......and I want to know what it is too. I come from a family of girls, and only one of my cousins has had a boy so far.

BUT I'd also like to not know and wait to see...so maybe on #2 or #3.....
