Re: To those fasting for Yom Kippur

I'm not actually fasting this year (b/c I'm pg), but I'll try for a bit (maybe between meals Chat Icon).

My mom is making chicken cutlets, cranberry sauce and sauteed broccoli. We're also having Matzoh Ball soup, Kasha Varnishkes and I'm gonna bring some mini-knishes from Knish Nosh as an appetizer. HTH!

Not sure yet. I don't really want to duplicate last Wednesday's night dinner.

Re: To those fasting for Yom Kippur

I am not fasting this year because I am breast feeding. My grandma usually makes a meat dish for erev yom kippur. So it is chicken soup, roasted chicken, kasha varnishkas, carrots and apricots, green beans, apple sause, cranberry sauce, challah and a cake. We do a dairy meal to break the fast.

Re: To those fasting for Yom Kippur

We never do a traditional dinner unless we are invited somewhere.... I probably won't do it this year since I am following a diet to get my metabolism on track--- if I was, I would prob just order my fave foods and pig out!

I joke with my jewish friends that I would be in it for Macroons and the Chocolate Covered Matzoh(sp?).

Not so much. Same meal every year and we are lucky if it has salt. If I never see another brisket, Id be one happy woman.

Traditional Jewish cooking recipe:

Boil everything

The end!

As for breaking the fast. I love me some bagels and lox!!!!

Re: To those fasting for Yom Kippur

My mom is making Turkey (YUM!)

My MIL is going to make the Brisket that's been frozen from last Passover.

Guess which house I'm going to Friday night?

The majority of my IL's don't fast so I prefer to break it with my own family cause they GET the idea of a feast, you know? Got really burnt this year..

Sounds somewhat similar to a traditional Irish recipe! Chicken & potatoes are just BURSTING with flavor to begin with, right? Just boil it all out!
