Today is the saddest day of my life
Today I left my 8 week old DS to go back to work. It hurts so very much. I've cried most of today. I wish I could stay home with him. I feel like I've abandoned him. I always wanted to be a SAHM for my child's 1st year and instead I'm back at work so soon. I'm doing my internship (my last requirement for my doctorate) and so not returning to work wasn't really an option.
I keep thinking that I've just become a part-time mom. He's too young to understand. What if he's wondering where I went and that I left him? I've never been away from him for more than 3 hours. Today I'll be away from 7 to 7. I keep telling myself that I'm doing this so I can be home with him more when he's a little older (i don't plan on working full time) but its not helping. I miss him so much. I feel like I'm dying inside. I don't know if I can go on.

Re: Today is the saddest day of my life
I know how it feels You didn't abandon him at all. And you are a full time MOM, your job is 2nd. I know it hurts but at this age they don't know the difference really and you will get a big smile when he sees you! (soon - lol I don't know if he is smiling yet ) But he knows his MOMMY!

Re: Today is the saddest day of my life
I promise it will get better.
First let me tell you he is too young to really know that anything is too different. He knows its not YOU but at that age, really all they know is that they are getting fed, changed etc.
And if it helps, I always said I would rather work while DS is young and doesnt really notice/care, and be home more (whether its working PT or not at all) when he is older and wants me there, and understands that mommy isnt with him.
GL, the first week is by far the hardest!!!
