Toddler blinking excessively?
Does anyone's toddler do this? For a few days now my 2 year old daughter has been doing when she watches TV or is excited about something. I took her to an optomologist yesterday and her eyes look perfect. He said for whatever reason kids do this and it should stop in 2-3 weeks. Anyone else been through this? I'm so nervous. I've been reading a lot on the internet about tics and tourette's syndrome.
I should also mention she had the MMR shot about 2-3 weeks ago. I'm hoping there isn't a correlation between the two.

Re: Toddler blinking excessively?
The only advice I have for you is to ask your doctors and not rely on the internet for ANY medical advice. If an opthamologist says it is ok, then it should be. If you are not satisfied with that answer, you do have the option of seeing another specialist.

Re: Toddler blinking excessively?
My DD did that at 2 as well. We saw the opthamologist as well, as she said everything was fine. What she actually recommended we do is brush her eyelashes away from her eye. She said sometimes they grow towards the eye. We did it after baths for a while and it did eventually stop. I don't know if it was just that she "outgrew" it or the eyelash thing actually helped. But it's worth a try.

Re: Toddler blinking excessively?
I have no firsthand experience with this one, but a little boy in my class does this (we counted 96 blinks in one minute) and they haven't found the cause yet...his comes and goes...sometimes he will do it consistently for a few weeks, then it stops for a month. Maybe a neurologist would be someone to see to rule out other things

My sister's son did that at the exact same age. She took him to get checked out and they found nothing. He grew out of it by the time he was three.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm going to try this and in two weeks if it doesn't stop i'll take her to see a neurologist. The optomologist said 99% of the time it turns out to be nothing but I rather be safe than sorry.
Charly: how long did it take your DD to outgrow this habit? I noticed my DD does this a lot when concentrating on the TV, or reading books, etc.

My DD used also say her eyes hurt. I think it went away after a week or so, but came back so we'd brush the eyelashes again and then it'd go away etc. The dr felt that since it worked and came back perhaps her eyelashes were irritating her eyes (she has long eyelashes.)
I also know that my DD will sneak books into her bed and "read" them at night with just a night light. I've told her not to do it, but she still does. Maybe that was bothering her eyes too. Who knows!
Good luck
