Re: Toddler constipated- please help

I just went through this with DD.

I gave her lots of fruit and prune juice, applesauce etc.

I also bought a stool softener and laxative OTC for kids but didnt have to use it because she finally went.

I also gave her lots of pep talks about feeling better if she was brave and just pushed it out quick.

If the foods don't help get some Miralax at the drug store. It works great!

Ground flax meal. Red mill brand is great. 1/4 tsp in applesauce or yogurt anything really. Play around until you find a dose that works. I give dd 1/4 tsp every other day.

Applesauce is constipating. although apples and apple juice are not. I went thru this with DD for TWO YEARS! We used miralax (and still sometimes do). If foods don;'t work, I would recommend that.

I give her straight up apple juice (I dont water it down) and I put some miralax in there.

Agreed. We used this with DS. you use 1/2 a cap full in his drink and we saw a difference in a few days...(yeah and prior DS was going up to 5 days with no #2 so he was pretty bad at the time!)

Thanks everyone I will pick up some miralax for the future. Luckily he got it out last night, we were cheering! Such a relief, literally!! I put some Benefiber in his juice. He used to need it a lot when he was a baby.

Re: Toddler constipated- please help

I just called the dr. this morning for this.
She said apple juice, prune juice...glycerin suppositories...grapes...I gave her 4 prunes last night, and nothing. I went and bought the suppositories and will give when she gets home from preschool - the pharmacist said it should work quickly.
