Toddler/Family Fall Photo shoot questions.
My friends little sister is starting a photog company in NJ. She is traveling to NJ to a photo shoot for us. Reduced rate.. getting her feet wet kind of thing.
So I need some help.
First: Locations. I want to do it outdoors. Nassau. Maaaaybe Western Suffolk.. but, I prefer Nassau. The only thing I can think of Eisenhower Park. (the lake, grass, trees.. maybe the playground)
Second: Clothes.. This is where I am a complete idiot. Do we all match exactly (e.g., jeans and a white top)? Or do we dress totally different.
I want to do some family shots, a halloween costume shot (I have to finish sewing the costume FAST!), and a nice dressy shot of him in a cute outfit (maybe a sweater vest or something).
Does anyone have pictures they are willing to share to give me some ideas? I am soo lost!
TIA!

Re: Toddler/Family Fall Photo shoot questions.
Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay! Or Sands Point Preserve in Port Washington! But I think the Arb. would be better for fall shots.
For outfits, I would not wear matching colors, but bold colors that complement each other. I am personally not a huge fan of the white shirts/blue jeans/khakis...I'll do it if that is what a family requests, but bold colors really make the images pop!

Do you need a permit to shoot at Planting Fields? I thought there was something about that. I do love that place! Thanks for the suggestion.
Any other suggestions?

I agree-I like coordinating stuff as opposed to the same outfit for everyone.
You are going to get some really great pictures

Planting fields is a $100 permit unless you want to risk a HEAVY fine! They are cracking down on that.
I'm a big fan of COORDINATING clothes, not matching!
Have fun!

Re: Toddler/Family Fall Photo shoot questions.
I went with a darker sweater last year for DS, but because our pics were along the water. If it is a background with mainly leaves and trees, then maybe you need to brighten it up a bit. Once the leaves start changing, drive around and look at different places. Don't always look at the big parks. A lot of small lakes and fields can yield great pics too.
As you can see with this pic (which I love too) is that he blends in more in his dark colors. He doesn't stand out like he did in against the water.
We chose dark colors for ourselves because I figured they hid flaws in the belly.
As you can see in this shot, my sweater is actually dark green. I think my husband's shirt was maroon.
But I chose to have our shoot at sunset, so lighting can be different for what you choose.

Re: Toddler/Family Fall Photo shoot questions.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I thought Planting Fields was a no no. I was also thinking of that pretty park in Roslyn. But, they may also have a fee.
There is Wantagh and Speno park near us. And Forest City has a lake. There is also that park in massapequa and the duck pond on Merrick Rd in Wantagh.
ETA: Kelly, those pictures are beautiful!

Yes, there is a $100 permit fee for Planting Fields. Forgot to mention that! For me, its worth it for the scenery.
I'll try and think of some more places for you.

Yes, the geese park in Roslyn does have a fee. It was $75 4 years ago.
