Stamps aren't TOO bad.. and DS loves them

Usually his hands just get dirty, and that can be hard to get off sometimes, but every once and a while he stamps on his body and gets a little crazy with it

Oh and he does painting in those little books that come with the paint colors in the tray and the brush and you just need a little cup of water.. DS doesn't get dirty with that at all, but you obviously have to watch that they don't spill the water.

We do everything. I don't care. We are getting rid of my kitchen table soon so lets see:

Playdoh
Finger paints
Watercolors
Regular paint
Stamps
We have made window catchers
These strange pom pom creatures from AC Moore.
For the last 2 nights we have been playing with Moon Sand-- I will say that one is a little too messy for even me.
We have made ornaments

Don't forget Crayola makes that color wonderstuff that is invisible except on the paper and they even make finger paint .

My daughter loves, loves, LOVES Play-doh. I got her a start set and she loves to make shapes in all the different colors and make speghetti. She will sit for an hour playing with me and it.

We have an easel - one side is paper, the other is for chalk. She can entertain herself for some time on that. Otherwise all our arts and crafts take place outside, i.e. sidewalk chalk, fingerpainting on the driveway, etc...

We use chalk in the driveway alot, those paint brushes that only show paint on paper, washable markers, playdoh. We also like to make instruments out of things. Like different coins, rocks in a empty water bottle. Or make a drum out of a box and decorate it. Make a guitar out of a tissue box with rubber bands.

We do pretty much everything too....the mess bothers me sometimes more on DS than on "things" but I am trying to get a grip.....lol! I just want him to experience everything. he always sits in his high chair for arts and crafts so it helps to contain the mess.

Oh BTW I tried the color wonder fingerpaint and thought it was disgusting. Like having them stick their hands in a big vat of vaseline....i prefer regular washable fingerpaint, but thats just IMO

Re: Toddler Moms-Arts and Crafts?

maybe I am the wrong mom to answer since I have an art background so I pretty much let dd do anything as long as she feels free to express herself.

(<-----hence the painted belly)

I loooove watercolors - they are easy and not too messy

Fingerpaint

Glueing - this is a great activity - they love to glue anything onto paper. I let her cut up magazines (yes, I let her use a scissor - and she is good at it!!) and glue collages.

I also buy things like googley eyes, feather, pompoms for gluing - its good for different colors and textures.

Sidewalk chalk

Plaster crafts

we are going to attempt some tie die today I think

I also think you can get creative with some food - like make your own pizza - with that you can make smiley faces, teach her about shapes, and cooking!!

Re: Toddler Moms-Arts and Crafts?

She makes all of her own thank you cards. If someone gives her a gift we make up a quick thankyou card the next day. We use colored card stock, i have a big pack of greeting card envelopes, and on the front we use markers, crayons, water colors, stickers, whatever we want at the moment.

We love using those foam stickers. They come pre-cut. We have flower ones and we stick them all over something (usually cards) and then use green marker to make lines for the flower stems.

Also...
fingerpaints (get cheap plastic table cloths from the dollar store. Put them over the table if you are worried, and you can re-use them)
play doh
safety scissors -- she loves to cut and paste

we go through the grocery ads, cut out what we need that is on sale, and glue (glue stick) to construction paper. It becomes our shopping list and we bring it with us to the store

necklaces out of fruit loops and apple jacks

OK sounds like I need to lighten up and make a trip to a craft store. Thanks for all the ideas.
