Toddler Must Haves on a 3 hour plane ride??

Nervous as heck to fly to Mimai with Frankie...he is very high energy and am nervous that we are going to be "those parents" that cannot tame their toddler. Any suggestions on must haves for the plane ride?

I just flew with my daughter (20 mo) and we brought the portable DVD player and her fave DVD's which really kept her attention. Other than that -- lots of snacks!! good luck

Re: Toddler Must Haves on a 3 hour plane ride??

We flew when Michael was 18 months. The week before the trip I got little toys from the Dollar Tree. They were all new to him, so he had some fun! I got him different sized notebooks in which to draw, a real looking remote, a calculator, a mini tap light, a flashlight, etc. The DVD player helped too.

ETA: I also withheld his favorite snack for the week before the trip. I brough plenty of it with me and gave it to him as the plane took off and landed. That way I knew his ears would pop.

We just flew with a toddler and infant.

The portable DVD player, crayons and stickers were lifesavers. Oh, and lots of snacks.

Re: Toddler Must Haves on a 3 hour plane ride??

when we last flew we packed a ton of little toys (coloring books, crayons, trucks, cars, travel magna-doodle, books) and snacks. We also took the DVD player which turned out to be a complete waste.
We flew SW and the flight attendants were really giving DC so much attention they were occupied with them thankfully. Hopefully our next trip will be just as good. Chat Icon

everyone has great things to bring - we bring most of them. But here's just a tip. We were on a 5 hour flight and DS wanted nothing to do with anything. We walked up and down the aisle for a good hour. People smiled at us, I'm hoping b/c he was happy and not screaming. The steward also gave us a little private tour of the kitchen (you know that tiny little area) and gave him a twix bar. He was a mess at the end of the trip, but he was quiet!

In addition to that, I would say LOTS of talks before hand about airplane etiquette.

I spent lots of time with Logan before talking about how we need to sit down and stay buckled in on an airplane.

At some point I let him get up and kneel in front of the seat to play on the seat like it was a table.

Three things I learned -

Think about headphones - he hated the earbuds, so I needed to buy the $5 disposable kind from Jet Blue.

Bring some kind of "table" or cushion. DS was too small to reach the table on the chair in front of him.

Give them the window seat!!

They make a travel aquadoodle that my kids loved in the 12 hour car ride down to NC. They also really liked those Seek & Find Toddler books.

Re: Toddler Must Haves on a 3 hour plane ride??

We flew to WDW in Mid May - so not much shorter of a flight than to fly to Miami.

We flew Jet Blue so I partially relied on the TVs to occupy her.

Then I brought with me - plenty of snacks- cheerios, and gold fish, drinks - apple juice and water - I had no problems with security with the drinks.

Toys - I got a couple of coloring books DD had never seen. A princess paper doll set. I brought Melissa and doug threading sets (the ones where you make necklaces or string laces in animals and shapes). I also brought a couple of small princess figurines that the disney store sells (they sell princess sets, toy story sets, winnie the pooh, cars etc so you can find one that your DC likes).

Re: Toddler Must Haves on a 3 hour plane ride??

We flew to Rome with DD when she was 2 last year. I thought the flight would be a nightmare but wasnt too bad ( plus she really didnt sleep the whole 9 hours). Our saving grace was definately a portable DVD player with a bunch of different cd's. WE also brought play doh, puzzles, snacks, and some new books that she loved going through.
