Toddler stuttering- Should I be concerned
DD just turned 3. I've noticed lately she is stuttering...
She's got a huge vocabulary.. can talk in 10 word sentences, but lately- and not all the time- it's almost like she can't find her words.. she'll say
tha tha tha tha that and then loose what was coming next.
Any speech therapists out there?
TIA

Re: Toddler stuttering- Should I be concerned
Thank you so much for responding!
I haven't been reacting to it at all, trying to ignore it so she doesn't become self conscious.
It just started a few weeks ago...not alot but enough for me to notice.
This morning I do think she was getting frustrated with it. She is very vocal and I think she was like WTH? why can't I spit this out? LOL
Thanks again..you put me at ease

Re: Toddler stuttering- Should I be concerned
My son had a pretty severe stutter when he was 2-3. So much that I worried it was more than developmental so I took him to be evaluated and had him in therapy for a little while. He eventually just grew out of it and turns out his brain was just working much faster than his mouth could get it outl. He is now 3 1/2 and is 100% fluent....not a hint of stuttering.
So don't worry....it is most likely normal!

Re: Toddler stuttering- Should I be concerned
I stuttered a lot when I was younger - I grew out of it. My dr. said it was because I couldn't talk as fast as I think (which is still the case today!!) I still stutter once and a while - but no one even notices to be honest. (and it's usually when I get excited or angry).

Re: Toddler stuttering- Should I be concerned
Being confused or mildly irritated by her inability to spit the words out is fine- but if you notice she starts to refuse to talk for fear of stuttering, then there is a real problem.

Thanks again! I'm going to make sure DH knows not to make a big deal out of it also...
I assume I shouldn't try to "help" her get her words out right?
