Toddlers - Parks

OMG since spring is upon us I have been trying to be out as much as possible, even squeezing in some park time right before dinner.

But Aidan has been an absolute BEAR when we have to leave. Chat Icon even if we're just in the yard, its a kicking and screaming fight to come inside...

I am hoping this is just the TT's and he will soon realize that we WILL return to the park another time! Chat Icon

oh yes.. it starts off with them running from you because they don't want to be put back into the stroller and then when you do catch them, the kicking and screaming starts. then once you get home, he/she presses his/her lil face up against the window like they are in jail lol

You can try saying things like "Good bye park! Good bye trees! I'll see you another day"

For some reason it helped both of my kids to say good bye & I'll see you tomorrow for things they missed. If you reiterate that you're going back, they seem to take better to leaving.

Yep, I do this also. Of course it doesnt always work. But we say things like "Bye slide, bye park, (or wherever we are) We'll be right back, DONT YOU MOVE, OK ? DONT GO ANYWHERE! We'll be back tomorrow! (or when daddy gets home)" and they start laughing

I usually tell Andrew its now time to find mommy's car in the parking lot. We go on a hunt and he's so proud when he spots "mommy's car!".

Our trouble at the playground lately is that Andrew thinks he should be the only person on any such piece of equipment at any time. If another kid comes within 2 feet, he screams and cries Chat Icon Makes me feel like a great mom Chat Icon

Oh my gosh. I thought I was the only one who had this problem. My son has become a terror. I love taking him outdoors, but I dread having to get him back in. Last week I took him for a walk in his stroller and when we got home he was just kicking and screaming because he wanted to go back out. Terrible two's... not fun at all!!!

Re: Toddlers - Parks

OMG I have the same issue with my backyard!!! If we go out, she'll NEVER want to come inside. The park, it's not so bad, but at home, OMG literally she'll be out there for hoursChat Icon

I do say it's time to go back inside, we're going to have a snack, etc but it doesn't help. She usually throws a fit when we're inside but then once I distract her a bit she's okay. I think she'll grow out of it once we're out there often this summer.

Re: Toddlers - Parks

We usually go to the parkl with a bunch of friends so before we get there al the Moms decide what time we are ALL leaving and we leave together! It makes it a little easier. I truly just tell them I;m counting to 3 and they usually come right away sicne they know i mean business, if I get to 3 and they have not listened they know there will be no book, or no playdate the enxt day, or no tv and i have been trying to follow through and they have gotten the picture.
I also start walking to my car and that usually freaks them out and they run at break-neck speed to catch up with me.
