Tongue Tie
I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with their babies and tongue tie. We have just had Noah's frenulum clipped as he has tongue tie and I was looking for some support or if anyone had been through this.
We have been to a fantastic lactation counselor and a fantastic doctor who specialises in Tongue Tie, so if anyone needs any support on this issue...let me know.

Re: Tongue Tie
What exactly is it? When Logan was first born one of the doctors said he had a short something (that thing under the tongue) but another dr said it was fine....not sure if that's what you are talking about.

Re: Tongue Tie
Ryan had one and he got it snipped when he was 6 weeks old. I'm so glad I did it because my niece had one too and they told my sisterinlaw not to worry about it. Guess what - she had to have it taken care of when she was 8!!!!

Re: Tongue Tie
being "tongue tied" means having a short frenulum (the little piece of skin between the tongue and the bottom of the mouth). When it is short, breastfeeding can be more difficult and it can also cause a speech impediment. My best friends son had his snipped right away in the hospital, it was nothing. For some reason the young pediatricians don't really want to do it, but the old timers do it no problem.h

Re: Tongue Tie
I actually just had my son's tongue-tie snipped last week! (he was 9 weeks at that point)
It really was not a bad experience at all. We went to a surgeon who is retired now, but she still does tongue-tie procedures by appointment, and also does lactation consulting. She was FANTASTIC, just such a nice person.
Immediately after the procedure, she had me put him to the breast and he latched perfectly and had a productive nursing session (something that never really happened before). But I really had it done to prevent possible speech impediments in the future...

I bet we went to the same doctor in Mineola...she did Noah's tongue about 2 weeks ago. He was 4 months nad never had bf'ed, but like you I thought it was something that needs to be done for the future. He was fine in about a half hour and seems fine now! I am so glad to hear that he bf'ed well!!!

Re: Tongue Tie
Yes, must have been the same doctor!!!
Alex doesn't nurse either-- I've been pumping full time since he was 2 wks old. Even though I could theoretically start nursing him now, I am happy with the pumping/bottle routine and plan to stick to it for the whole 6 months of bf-ing.

Well Good luck with it! I am on 4 and a half months of pumping and its tough, but doable!! We were on a trans-atlantic flight last night and that was a bit of a panic, but we made it and I didn't even have to go to the bathroom to pump with my handpump!
