Too Late
My parents made up their mind they plan on bringing the dog tomorrow to north shore. I am so upset. I even called Muttmanners to set up an appointment to Friday. I am trying to talk her into letting me see what the training will do. I even volunteered to pay for it. I know they love the dog, but again he chewed and destroyed this afternoon.
I hope I can convince them.

Re: Too Late
How long have they had the dog and how old is the dog??? You should def try to convince them to not jump so quick and to give the dog another shot, he/she deserves that.
It is very frustrating training a dog, but that is the commitment you take when getting a pet.
I hope it works out either way

Re: Too Late
That makes me so sad. Rudy was the same way. We hired a trainer (bark busters) and it worked! He still tries to jump up but we know how to get him to stop. We also walk him with a harnass (other wise he pulls me down the block)

Re: Too Late
Oh no that's terrible! They need to understand that they adopted him and they are responsible for him. He has feelings, imagine how devastating that is going to be for him to be abandoned by his family? Not to mention who wants to adopt a dog with issues? Please please try your best to convince them to give him another chance.
Good luck
ETA: Are you sure NSAL will even take him? If they are thinking of a town shelter then they should know it will probably be a death sentence.

Re: Too Late
Oh no that is so sad!! Please see if they will give the obedience training a go. It's a HUGE help. We have friends who have 2 german shepards and they are SO well behaved. They both went through the obedience course.
Do your parents have a crate? I know they are SUPER helpful when it comes to training. (Even though we hardly use ours!! But we haven't run into problems like this) The same friends w/ the 2 german shepards use them and swear by them.
I really hope the reconsider and keep the dog. They need to remember he's still a puppy!
ETA: If you want, I will get the phone number of the obedience trainer they used and FM you.

Re: Too Late
We have a distructive dog...I understand how frustrating it can be, but I really hope that they will try training first. I always think...if I had a distructive child, would I give him away?

Re: Too Late
Oh so sadd.. They have given it 2 years, they can't give it a couple more weeks with training ? I understand that they are probably so frustrated with their house being destroyed. I'm sure this is hard on you as well.
I adopted my dog at 2 years old and he was a nightmare! THey have sooo much energy that young. Always jumping and tackling me. 2 years is still a puppy. But with training and patience, he is perfect now.
If he can't stay, I hope he finds a good home.

Re: Too Late
i've been trying all evening to convince my mom.
she said she called north shore and they referred her to a rescue league type thing that specializes in bigger dogs. We make a profile with what ages they will be good for and they find a home.
I hope I can convince her to lets see what the trainer can do. I even volunteered to pay! They have always had dogs so its shocking that this is the route they are going.
