Took my first Metformin today...
...I was shaking! I've been putting it off for fear of all the side effects! 
But, I watched what I ate today, ate a protein-heavy dinner, and took my first pill right in the middle of dinner. 850 mg! 
So far, no real side effects and it's been about 1 1/2 hours ::knock on wood::.
Wish me luck! This is a big step for me, I'm a big baby when it comes to this stuff.

The metformin never really bothered me with the side effects. I hope it does the same for you!

Nothing so far for me...I even had a small glass of wine at midnight! We'll take the plunge together!!!!!

You girls are the best. Last night I didn't have any real problems--I hope it stays that way! I've decided to avoid sugar like the plague!

I've been on 1500 mg for a little over 3 months with no side effects. I too changed the way I was eating........I find staying away from simple carbs like cookies and cakes and junk food was the best way to avoid side effects. I try to stick with complex carbs and smaller, lighter, more frequent meals. Good luck...hope this helps!!
