Top careers for working parents
Did anyone see this? I definitely don't agree with some of the choices. Interesting article though.

I don't agree with some of them either but I am glad to see that going back to school for my career change is listed.
I am a massage therapist and it's a great part time job for a mom.

Not knocking a career choice but why would they say "Teacher assistant" and not teacher?
Is the idea to aim at lower paying jobs?
Completely not impressed with the list.

I think the idea with the TA was that they work p/t whereas a teacher works f/t, thus making it more "flexible" for a working mom. I agree, the pay stinks for that type of job though.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Home health aide didn't sound like a great choice either, but I guess the flexible hours may explain that choice. And accountants? What about tax season? That may be a tough time for a working parent.

Totally agree.
I think with accountants, depending on the company you can get a lot of flexibility (working from home without having to work during the 9 -5 time frame), they also tend to hire part time/per diem employees more frequently than other fields.
My SIL works part time for a CPA firm and gets paid great. She agrees to work 20 hours with 1 day in the office, the rest at home. As long as she gets the work done they don't care if she does it at night or on the weekends, etc. I'm considering this as a possible next step for myself if I decide to go PT.

I think all these jobs have a common is you can either consult or work from home.

Re: Top careers for working parents
Accountant is not only CPA's and people that do taxes, but they are needed in every company, someone has to do the books. They seem to be lumping into this a wide range of people, some with 2 years of school and those with a 4 year degree and license.
Acct's are also able to work per-diem, there are always people looking fr part time help, and you can easily open up your own business and work the hours you want.
I am a full time CPA and tax seaosn is actually not that bad, it lasts 3 months, as long as you don't work for a huge firm you are fine. I actually didn't work a stitch of OT last tax season which was very nice!
