Top of the stairs gate

please recommend your top of the stair gate. Preferably one that doesn't require hardware/screws to secure it (if they make them in pressure mounted ones thats what i am looking for)

Re: Top of the stairs gate

I think most top of the stair gates have to be screwed/bolted into the wall to be most effective. We got ours from Safety 1st-- and so far we like it (but it does need to be screwed into the wall).

oh OK, i had a feeling i would have to get one like that, but didn't know if they made them pressure mounted (which doesn't really make sense for safety reasons anyway)

I wanted a pressure-type one, too. Turns out they're not recommended for top of the stairs (which makes sense when you think about it! Chat Icon). I like the one we got ... SmartLight Stair Gate by Safety 1st.

Re: Top of the stairs gate

I would never trust a pressure mounted gate on the top of the stairs. We have them blocking doorways and DS is always knocking them down. We got a safety first and DH screwed it into the walls. The holes suck but, they can be fixed when we take it down.

We have wooden stairs so we got this one. I love it and it is easy to use (also has to be mounted to the wall). It is Evenflo and you can find it at BBB or babies r us

This is the one we have on all our stairs. We've had them up for 3 years now between the 2 kids and no problems at all.

Re: Top of the stairs gate

I have a really nice one I bought in Target. Its by Summer. It is pressure mounted and if you want it can be drilled into the wall. I chose not to. It is very pretty. Brown with a little arch. I think it was around $64.00 and it comes with extension pieces and you dont have to purchase extra. I love it and think its a great gate.

Also, Its so EASY to assemble

I agree.... My boys lean on ours and even tried to climb it a few times. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'd only use a pressure mount at bottom of stairs or to block a room.
