Top of wedding cake - question

I have the top of our wedding cake in our freezer and it's been almost 5 weeks since the wedding. I think I didn't "pack" it up right and that its going to be awful when we try to eat/taste it on our 1 year anniversary. Also, the box it's currently in is huge and taking up too much space in our freezer. Can anyone suggest the best way to pack up the cake so it's still good in a year? Or is it too late since it's been in there 5 weeks already?

PS: The way I packed it was by wrapping the cake itself in like 3 or 4 layers of aluminum foil. Then placed it in the huge cake box and wrapped the cake box in 3 or 4 layers of aluminum foil.

I bought a tupperware that I think is large enough to put the cake into - should I take the cake out of the big cake box, leave the cake wrapped in aluminum, and then put in the tupperware?

Sorry for the long question!!! TIA!

I only had ours in a cake box that was wrapped with saran wrap and it tasted delicious.
I think yours will be fine the way it is.

Re: Top of wedding cake - question

I wrapped the actual cake with a TON of layers of saran wrap. Then I placed it in a round tupperware that perfectly fit around it.

1 year later and it tasted AMAZING!Chat Icon

My mom got sick of having our cake in her freezer and dropped out cake top off today, along with my wedding gown.

Um... I guess it's time to have it preserved and boxed?!

hmmm, so saran wrap would be better than aluminum foil you guys think? I just hate the idea of this cake taking up sooooo much of our freezer space if it's going to be nasty in a year Chat Icon I'd much rather it be yummy!

Re: Top of wedding cake - question

I canned my cake and ordered a 9" round duplicate from the same bakery for our anniversary.
Freezer space is precious to me.

Re: Top of wedding cake - question

Honestly - I would think that the reynolds wrap might take away from the cake.

I wrapped mine in saran wrap - and then it was in a small box and then we wrapped the box with saran wrap.

I would call the bakery that you got the cake from and ask their opinion

Re: Top of wedding cake - question

Our cake was taking up way too much room in our freezer. I cut two slices & put them in a tupperwear to save for our anniversary.

We used the foodsaver to remove all the air....it was fine when we opened it a year later.

Re: Top of wedding cake - question

To be quite honest.....my cake lasted three days in my freezer....we each had a piece and then threw it out....i'm going to the bakery and having them make me a mini cake for my anniversary! Took up too much space in the freezer and who the hell wants to eat a year old cake!??! I dont believe in bad luck...we got married on the 13th.!

Re: Top of wedding cake - question

Ummm....we ate ours when we got back from our honeymoon. We did not have freezer space. frankly, we did not miss our cake on our anniversary but then neither one of us are that nostalgic.
