Torticollis

Hi Ladies,

My Twins are 3 1/2 months & found out recently the have torticollis. One more severe then the other. I am told it's very common with multiples. I am wondering how many of you had twins with this & how long you had to go to PT?

Re: Torticollis

My son Anthony, Baby A, had torticolis.
at 19 months he is still receving PT through early intervention.

At 3 months we were told my ped to look into it. Immedicately we started with private pysical therapy through our insurance to start getting some excercises in.
By 4 months he was evaluated and accepted into EI. 2x a wk. for pysical therapy
We also were told he had plagiocephaly, distorted head due to the constant laying of right side. We had to see a neurologist for this.

By 5 months he was placed in a helmet.

The helmet did great and he is 85% round and that was removed at his 1st bday.

The PT still works with A 1x a week. She feels he should graduate soon but Im not sure Im ready to let that go just yet. The excercises are important and I feel if I can continue that until he is 2...it will be a good thing.

He looks a world of a difference and Im SO thankful of all the resources that were given to me to help him with the tort.

THanks for responding I can't believe how many people viewed but you are the only one that responded. I have heard from 3 people outside of this group who's twin/s has had this so I know it's very common.

We started PT & have been going 2X's a week. My Twin B has the more severe of a case. Twin A has it slightly & hopeing it will correct on it's own since I didn't even notice it.

We just learned about early intervention & they are coming today to evaluate. I was just curious on how long you had PT. Thanks for the info & responding.

YW and Good luck!

If it wasnt for many on here, i wouldnt of not known as much as I did going through the process.

EI is great so I do hope he qualifies since its so helpful, free aid and they can come to your home esp when you have two to deal with.

Any other questions, feel free to FM me.

Re: Torticollis

Both of my boys had head issues.

G. had torticolis. He did PT 2X a week from 6mo - 8.5mo. He also had a helmet from 7mo - 10mo. Made amazing progress quickly.

H. had more serious cranio issues, had major surgery, but is doing fine!

FM me if u have any questions!

Fortunately this is so common and treatable!

My twins didnt have it but it is very common in twins. And it is very treatable. I am a pediatric pt so if you have any questions please feel free to fm me.

Starting early is great! Good luck with the EI evaluation. It is such a great service and it makes it so much easier when it is in your home. Make sure you ask your pt questions and have her/him show the stretches and exercises. Try them out with your pt before you leave for the visit to make sure you are doing them right Chat Icon She may be able to give you tips on how to do them or how to distract your DC while you do them Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for your message. I thought we were getting evalutated today but just coordinator came. Evaluation next week. We have been going to PT on our own but just found out about early intervention so if we can get for FREE then this is the route we should take I try & do the excercises, but when I do he crys. I know he doesn't like it, but I am trying.

You'll find that's pretty common on this board. I think its a combination of lots of people being interested in multiples, and I know I'm often reading the boards on my phone with one hand while feeding a baby with the other so I can't respond. If I can help I try to come back later

Both of my boys have some degree of Torticollis, my Baby A is worse than my Baby B. Because of it, they both have flat spots (plagio) and will wear helmets for a few months. One already has his, the other gets his on Friday.

We had an evaluation with EI last week and didn't qualify because while they need PT for the tort, they are too advanced in other areas. I'm really really really proud of them for how advanced they are based on their adjusted age (born 8 weeks early) but was actually hoping to get PT through EI so I didn't have to get them to appointments out of the house.

We haven't pursued private PT yet, that is our next step.

ETA: They are 5 1/2 months old now, 3 1/2 months adjusted.

Re: Torticollis

My boys had it! Started PT 2x a week at 5 months until about 11 months. Baby B was worse than A. We brought him to a pediatric neuro surgeon bc the PT from EI recommended a helmet. He didn't end up needing one and is now fine.

** They weren't even approved for EI I brought them privately but when she came to do the evaluation she recommended we see a neuro surgeon so I did!!
