Torticollis? Any deal with it?

I think DH is going to be diagnosed with this. My LC suspects he has it and not that she noticed it it's much more obvious to me that DS head kind of tilts and he favors one side.

What can I expect?

My DS had torticollis from birth. We went to a PT and after a few intense months he was cleared. Today you'd never know. If you do a search on torticollis and my name you'll see info I have posted but please feel free to FM. Chat Icon

I know a number of moms with kids who have had it. They all had PT and their kids are fine now. However, all kids are different and progress at different rates.

Re: Torticollis? Any deal with it?

My Ds had it and it was diagnosed at 4 or 5 months. He received physical therapy and they gave me a few things to do at home - some as simple as a bright pic on the wall over his changing table so he would be drawn to it and would stretch his neck the opposite way - and he was fine. His case was fairly mild but looking at his early infant pics, he def had a tilt to his head.

My son had it too. I just did the exercises with him and switched the arm I use to feed him! He's fine now.

Same here. My DD was born with it. She developed quite the flat head as a result. We switched arms to feed, changed the direction we put her in the crib and the direction we placed her on the changing table, stretched her neck with the exercises we were taught and I bought a bjorn to keep her off the back of her head. I also rolled up a receiving blanket to prop her head over when she was in the carseat or bouncy. It all helped but once she began to roll over by herself we saw a big difference. Today you wouldn't know.

My neighbor's DD was diagnosed with this at 2 months. They did PT once a week and by 6 months she was cleared. She is now 6 1/2 months old and you'd never know!

ALexa has a severe case of it, it is one of the reasons she isn't on teh breast yet. We have been goign for cranial sacral therapy since she was 3 days old and it is getting better each day!

interesting fact our therapist said was that kids with it have a higher tendancy to have bad reflux which we are also battling

This was DS also. He had mild torticollis, from birth- as a result of being turned to one side while in the womb- and during delivery (needed a c-section). He also had reflux- our doctor said they were related.
He started PT at around 3 months- finished at 10 months. His reflux improved dramatically by the 5th month. GL!

Interesting.
Our 4 month visit got postponed to Friday so I will know more then.
DS does have reflux. He nurses but has become much less content on my right side (him lying the way that forces him to stretch the shorter muscle).
He also had what I would consider a traumatic birth so I have read that can be related as well.
I feel a little guilty b/c the ped wanted us stretching his neck at his 2 month and we did a little bit but once he was turning his head we thought he was OK....guess not.

Thanks for I'll the feedback. I'll get the true diagnosis on Friday.
