TOSmithtown residents - ? about "contractor" trash (toilets, sheetrock, tile, wood, sinks, etc)

TOS residents,

When you throw out items such as tile, sheetrock, toilets, etc...is it true that you have to bring them to the "dump" yourself?

And when you do, do they take your info down? I guess I am wondering, if you know someone who is handy who does the work for you (plumbing, etc) without a "permit", will they come check after seeing what you threw out at the dump and having your address?

Maybe I am wrong but on the TOS website it seems to say you would have to bring "contractor" like garbage to the dump.

I ask all this b/c where we currently live, you can throw out everything and anything (we recently threw out 45+ bags of plaster, toilets, sink, etc when we redid our bath, over a few weeks). So if I move I want to know, what am I in for in TOS.

Help me out here. Thanks

A lot of stuff we threw out in dumpsters.....but there were some odds and ends that DH brought to the dumps.

Your car gets weighed and you get charged a fee by weight. And all they ask is proof of residence; utility bill, or whatever..........

Highly doubt they investigate your garbage and what you have as far as permits.........

Well we have a garbage pamphlet of all the rules and regulations of whats allowed on the curb and stuff. Other than trees/grass stuff like that, Im pretty sure everyting else needs to be brought in especially toilets and stuff. And there is also a time frame to drop these things off. If you need the info, let me know and I will FM you once I get home later.

Im not sure theres such a thing as "special pick up". But I dont know.......Im new to the area as well. Chat Icon

we did a LOT of work to our house and never made a run to the dump. We tore down walls, replaced our kitchen, changed all the windows - they took it all: tile, sheetrock, sinks, cabinets, windows, doors, etc.

Yup, they took it all. It helps to meet them at the curb with a tip Chat Icon -thats what my dad always does (my parents have lived in Smithtown for 25 years).

eta: Al said he always broke things down to less than 4 feet and didn't put it all out at once, but it all went away...
