Re: Did you or anyone you know ever set up a registry for a housewarming party that they hosted for themselves?
I've never heard of doing this, to be quite honest.

Re: Did you or anyone you know ever set up a registry for a housewarming party that they hosted for themselves?
That's an interesting question.
A friend of mine just bought (and FULLY renovated) a house.
She is getting married next year. And I wonder. Is she going to have a shower?
Does she need my little $50-100 (?) gift that I would give to her (considering that she just spent a FORTUNE on her own home.)
I'll figure it out when the time comes. But I've been thinking about this.
Tell us more!

Re: Did you or anyone you know ever set up a registry for a housewarming party that they hosted for themselves?
I always figured we would have a house warming party at some point, but we have just been gradually inviting friends and they keep bringing stuff so I am not going to have the house warming, I will just have a get together to see everyone. We sent all of our friends who purchased homes reciently housewarming presents regardless of whether or not they were just married.
eta: i am not setting up a house warning registry. I usually bring a bottle of wine for a new home.

I had a housewarming party and I would never "register" for it. People were extremely generous, and yes, it was like my bridal shower all over again (even though I had mentioned "no gifts").. The generosity was extremely appreciated. IMO I think its rude to register.

My former neighbor had a "moving" shower that her mom threw. I am not sure if there was a registry/wish list.
This is someone who was never married, and hasn't since moving.

I have heard of it. It was a friend of a friend and we all worked at the same place.
She did end up being the subject of some passionate gossip as a result.......

I agree. We had a party and people were quite generous. Immediate family asked what we wanted/needed, but the rest didn't and we got some cool stuff. I find it tacky to register, jmo.

Re: Did you or anyone you know ever set up a registry for a housewarming party that they hosted for themselves?
I know a couple of people who have done that, and I personally find it BEYOND ballsy. I'm sorry, but if you want to invite people to your new home for a party, you have no right to expect them to help furnish/accesorize/etc... your home.

Re: Did you or anyone you know ever set up a registry for a housewarming party that they hosted for themselves?
My cousin did this. She was single, no kids, not dating anyone, etc. Moved into her first apartment, threw a housewarming party for herself and registered at BBB. I thought it was obnoxious. Her registry wasn't like a full-blown bridal registry, it was very small in comparison, but I still found it pretty presumptuous. I got her a gift... not off her registry.
