Inspection/Engineer Question
What qualifications did your engineer have when inspecting your home - structural engineer or home inspector (not structural)?

Re: Inspection/Engineer Question
Ours was actually both which is unusual. Actuallly, it is only recently that they made home inspectors' licensing a bit more comprehensive and difficult to obtain. I think Nassau and/or Suffolk just passed more stringent requirements in the past few months.
I guess there were too many fly-by-night guys out there with the housing boom.

Re: Inspection/Engineer Question
We had an engineer do the inspection on our home. We almost went to contract on another house and we had a regular inspector do that one and I thought it was far too generic. They just checked off on a check-list. I felt it was such a waste of money and for the next inspection I found an engineer. He spent 4 hours at our home and brought in an independent contractor to do the termite certification.

Re: Inspection/Engineer Question
We had an engineer do the insepction as well. He was very thorough. He took his time and explained everything to us. I noticed he would make sure I understood what he was saying too, and I appreciated that. He overnighted a huge binder with pics and explanations.
Here's his website if you're interested. He charged us $475
