Town of Hempstead.. Mailbox regulations..

GRR!! I just posted a whole long post and pressed post.. and I got an internet error... Oh well, I don't have the time to post the whole back story again.. so here's the whole point...

Are there regulations to where you can post your mailbox? I.e., on your house or at the curb? I have searched all over the internet and I can't find anything!

Re: Town of Hempstead.. Mailbox regulations..

see, I have mine on pole about halfway down my front lawn, next to the path.

The issue is this. My Mom's doggie is afraid of strangers on his property. When my brother lived there with his dog, the mailman used to open the door and give the two dogs treats. Now that my brother's dog is gone, clancy, my Mom's dog is afraid of him. He chased him once. No biting or anything. But, that's scary enough. THe door was broken by the bigger dog jumping on it and he was able to pounce on the door and open it. So they fixed the door and all was okay. he has been going to agility training and working indirectly with trainers to resolve his "issues". He is a really pesty dog. Very obessed with fetch and relentless about it. It annoys everyone to no end. He also is not so great with DS. He doesn't hurt him but, he barks at him constantly. So, there are issues that my Mom is working on.

Well the other day, he somehow broke the door again. My mom didn't get a chance to fix it yet. On Wed, the dog jumped on the door when the mailman came and chased him again. The post office called Animal control and is refusing to EVER deliver mail there again. My Mom has been calling them trying to fix the situation. She is replacing the door this weekend. She is paying a fortune to a trainer starting next weekend. He even offered to come when the mail is delivered and work with them together. The post office has been horrible to my Mom and they have her in tears. She is trying everything she can to fix this. They just keep talking over her, belittling her, telling her she is a wholey irresponsible dog owner. Really awful stuff. She is totally taking responsibility for this and is trying so hard to fix it. She asked them if she needed to get rid of the dog in order to get mail again or if there was something she could do to fix it and keep the dog. She was totally serious. she is at her wits end. They wouldn't even utter a response to her question and kept putting her down.

So I thought that maybe in conjunction, with the new door, training and whatever else we can think of, putting a mailbox far from the house might help. They are having a supervisor call her on Monday to talk about it. But, I don't expect them to be too nice to her. This is my Mom's baby but, I think she at the point of getting rid of the dog and I would hate to see that happen. They are so close and really he is a sweet dog with some issues that we are working on and are trying really hard to resolve. Obviously, we need to do more. And they are.

I think it might be time to go to the post office directly (I highly doubt they would be so rude in person). See if that will move things around. I would also speak to a direct manager or post master. I know in my town they have a delivery manager because I have dealt with him a few times about our mail person. I hope it all works out for everyone, doggie too.

Sorry your mom has to deal with this. I find the Post office is rarely nice to anyone. I know we have a pretty consistant mail delivery, around about time we always get our mail.. does your mom have this? If so couldnt she just keep her main door closed when that time is coming, this way the dog cant get through?
