Some swelling is normal. If it is sudden or dramatic, check in with your doctor.

Re: toxemia

My friend had it as well and she needed an emergency C-Section a month early.

Her blood pressure was through the roof and that is how her DR made her go immediately to the hopsital after her visit. She also had a lot of headaches which is a sign also.

some swelling is very normal. you would know if it's not. Toxemia is very dangerous and when one has it you blow up fast.

I had it and delivered 3 weeks early with an emerg c. I was also on bedrest for 3 months before delivering. I was swollen, my pressure was really high and I had protein in my urine.

Also, if you are experiencing head aches or dizziness, call your dr. These are signs of high blood pressure.

They knew first from my urine sample that I gave every time and from my blood pressure. I then had to go for a long urine test at the lab and I had to keep I think 24hrs worth of urine in a container and then hand it in to them.

Toxemia is the reason you pee in a cup every visit - to see if there is protein in your urine (#1 sign).

I had a scare a few weeks ago. Protein was +3 and I was waaaay swollen, but my blood pressure was perfect at 110/70. The MD still sent urine to the lab for a full analysis and it came back with only trace amounts being detected. He put me on complete rest for three days. The swelling went down completely, and if for any reason the protein comes back that high he sends it to the lab (it hasn't).

Now I pay attention to my ankles and if they look as bad as they did the day we had the scare I take the day off from work and sit on the couch with my feet up. So far I only did that once and the swelling went away - just like it did after the three days of doing nothing.

Re: toxemia

I had it, its when you BP goes up and stays up, its bad for both mother and baby, they have to take the baby out right away, sometimes very early too! Julia was born at 38 weeks.

I had to watch my diet this time and stay away from salty foods.

The funny thing is I never had protein in my urine, I was just very swollen and my BP was high, but it was normal my whole pregnancy. I think I had hypertention.
