Toys R Us return policy

Hi - I posted this on the pregnancy board, but realized I should put it here to...

Did anyone else hear that you can no longer return (even for store credit) anything from TRU without a receipt? They will do nothing for you, no exchange (even for the same item) or even a credit for the last lowest sale price. You are now stuck with what you have (or were given as a gift) if you don't have a receipt. Apparently they had a lot of problems with fraud, etc., so they changed their policy.

When did this start? I return things to BRU all the time with no receipt.

I sent them an email when I heard about this & here is their response:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our return policy. We will gladly accept returns within 90 days of the purchase date on most items sold at any "R" Us store in the U.S or Puerto Rico. Simply return it within 90 days of purchase,with your receipt and original packaging.

The refund will be given in the form of a Merchandise Credit for the
lowest promotional price within the last 30 days. Items must be returned
unused and with the original packaging. Please note that "R" Us stores
reserve the right to refuse a refund.

We will accept returns within 45 days of the purchase date on the
following products: Video games / accessories / systems, computer software, VHS, DVD, music, electronics, radio control,trading cards and
collectibles. The original receipt is required for a refund or exchange and the item must be returned in it?s unopened, factory sealed package. If the item has been opened, it can only be exchanged for an identical item.

Then, after further questioning about items w/o a reciept, they replied:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our return policy. You may do as you see fit with items you own be they purchased by you at our store or given to your as a gift. If you would like to return those items, you would need a receipt (either purchase or gift) in order to return them to our store. Our new return policy was implemented to reduce return fraud and allow us to keep our prices competitive. We do
apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you once again for your interest. We look forward to serving you in the future!

IT completely S U C K S. I have a gift from my son's b-day in May that he got doubles of and we can't return it because we didn't get a gift receipt.

UPDATE: I just called BRU and they DO NOT have the same policy as TRU....if you have a return without a receipt, you get a store credit for the lowest selling price in the last 30 days.....

If you bought an item at TRU with a credit card, they can look up the transaction and still do a return for you if you don't have the receipt. Target will also do this for you, because they also do not take any returns without a receipt. I think Walmart is going that way as well, as I was there today and their sign said something about items may be returned or exchanged when returned within 90 days with a receipt. We'll see what happens with them. As far as the BRU by me, they still take returns without a receipt.

i always return to the bru in sayville/bohemia and have no prob....just give them your license!

also, you CAN return to target with no receipt...you just give them your license!

both give merchandise credits!

Wow! That's good to know -- the one by me (in South Setauket) won't even exchange for a different size without a receipt if they can't look up the purchase by credit card.
