Traffic heading off the island
I am going upstate but I want to leave Riverhead around 4. How is the traffic heading west in Western Suffolk Nassau and Queens at around 5-5:30? Am I insane?

The traffic is pretty bad around 4:45 when I leave work. This is ext 44 (Route 135) Syosset. I would leave later to miss the traffic, since I know around here traffic start to build about 3:30.

That is not always true sometimes the traffic is worse going west in the afternoon then it is to go east, especially on a Friday with everyone going into the city.

surprisingly, no. DH & I were going east on the Grand Central in NAssau which was moving. Headed west was stand still.
I am not saying it will be like that now, but there's no such thing as reverse commute anymore.

Traffic is bad in ALL directions at that time..especially on a friday thats rainy! It used to be you could say all traffic was heading out east..not that way anymore. Its EVERYWHERE! Good luck!

Yeah thats true but there is still traffic (horrendous) when it rains and if I leave work a 5:00 I am gettin home at 6:55 non Rain 6:15-30ish.. I do it everyday .

Its ugly both ways in Queens from 2:30 to at least 6:30..on Friday it will be worse.
Can you take the Whitestone? If you can then you can get on the CIP...but that is going to be awful too. What about leaving now or 8pm?
